Hi guys, this is my first post on these forums and I hope it's in the right place.. if not let me know/sorry!

I recently got a Beocenter 7700 to repair (I'm definitely not a pro..) and fixed a few cosmetic and speaker-related things on it. One of the problems was the tape deck stopping right away when play is pushed, with the light behind the cassette going on for a second and then going out.

Now that I've cleaned the gooey mess and replaced the belts--correctly, I am pretty sure--with Dillen's kit (thanks Martin!), things are getting a little bit more interesting..

The tape light turns on and the heads move up onto the tape, a hiss is heard (just the heads touching the tape I assume) but the heads retract and everything stops. The light, however, remains on, and the machine seems to still be in "tape mode". if that makes any sense.

I'm not sure how to check for problems with the motor, but I'm thinking it might be something related to that..?

If so, does anyone know where I could get a replacement motor?

Thanks a lot for any hints/ideas..!

hey guys, sorry I hope I'm not spamming, but I guess the problem must have been partly mechanical.. I disassembled the whole thing and put it back together and for some reason now all the tape functions work!! Smile

I'm very happy

the only thing that doesn't work is fast forward for some reason.

I don't want to get too esoteric but if everything else was fixed with unintentional mechanical moves.. maybe this'll just sort itself out by further jiggling?

If its the same deck as the Beocenter 5000, maybe this retro post of mine from 2009 will shed some light on the situation for you.

Dear Andrew,

thanks..! Your post makes things a little less esoteric.. now I'm pretty confident I can fix it when I find my momentum. It's cool also because it's pretty much the last thing to fix on my 7700.. never thought it would be so easy to restore..
