Hello dear B&O-adepts!

My first post on this forum. Smile

Looking for a reasonably priced tube amplifiers, I stumbled on this beauty for sale.

Instead of listening to a shiny Chinese amplifier box, I am now enyoying the marvelous sounds produced by a black faced B&O Hi-Fi stereo 610 amplifier.

Tubes seem still to be readily available, mainly in the form of the Soviet Vinniza 6F5P tube, equivalent for the original ECL85.

Age is beginning to show however, following problems appear:

- Only the tape input is working, the others just deliver a faint murmuring at best

- The right channel sometimes crackles at lower sound levels (tested on different pairs of speakers)

- Treble and Bass control don't react well anymore

I found some older threads that mention (partial) replacement of the electrolytical caps.

Would this solve the above-mentionned problems? Could I do this myself? I'm willing to learn a bit, but don't have extensive knowledge (bought some S45 and P30 speakers, could "practice" on the crossovers of these first). Actually I would prefer finding a qualified person doing the renovation.

If somebody can recommend such a person in Belgium or the south of the Netherlands, I would be graceful too. Smile

Capacitors in general, yes. It would benefit from that.

- Only the tape input is working, the others just deliver a faint murmuring at best
There can be many reasons for this. Capacitors, bad contacts etc. It will have to be investigated.

- The right channel sometimes crackles at lower sound levels (tested on different pairs of speakers)
Clean valve pins and sockets. It's very common to hear crackling sounds as the valves warm up and their pins move ever so slightly in the sockets.

- Treble and Bass control don't react well anymore
Cleaning or replacing of potentiometers.

Hi Martin,

Do you also have capacitor kits for the 610?

Thanks,

Rudy
