I recently aquired a set of BeoLab 5000 speakers and a BeoSystem 6500.

The previous owner passed away and left the system with his wife.

It seems to me she didn't know too much about the system because it was set up using  cables hooked up to 2 pins shoved into a speakerlink port and changed to RCA on the other end and hooked up to line in on the BeoLabs.

As such I never tested them with PowerLink cables.

Is there a programming sequence I need to use on the MCP 6500 to enable PowerLink outputs?

Thanks.

I don't think so.  But you do need to make sure that the 'Mode' and 'Video/Audio/Off' switches on the speakers are set properly.   Designate one speaker L and the other R.  Then make sure the Video/Audio/Off switch is set to Audio.  When the speakers are plugged in there should be a red standby light which goes off and the displays light up when the source is turned on.

Welcome to Beoworld!

Thanks for the welcome!

I grew up with a BeoCenter 9000 and Redline Beovox speakers. Fond memories of how that piece was the center of discussion of every party from when I was 6 until I turned 20 when it gave out.

I was thinking that maybe the problem was the cables. And sure enough I had one connected between the speakers and the other connected between the two outputs on the BeoMaster! Erm..

Anyway, that solved 1 problem. Now both the displays power on and show the source. However only one of the speakers play. The bad one does not even make a hissing sound when turned on by itself without a cable connected. I am relatively new to BeoLabs, so does this mean my BeoLab amplifier is broken? Or are there other common problems?

On the plus side, the sound on the working one is great.

Quite possibly.  Try both powerlink sockets on the bad speaker.   I don't think it's difficult to remove the amplifier modules from the speakers but I've never attempted it on mine.   it appears there are two brackets that attach them to the speakers.  Hopefully someone will chime in with instructions.  If you swap them and the bad speaker then works, the amp. is the culprit.
