I have just bought a Beogram 1100 record player. Working fine apart from the tone arm. It has no cartridge fitted and is in a raised position such that the top is touching the lid when the lid is lowered. If I move the rear end of the tone arm up or down with my hand it returns to this same position. When I press play the tone arm moves to the edge of the platter and retains this position. What is the problem here?

Also the platter just lifts off, is not secured by anyhthing. Is this how it should be? Many thanks if anybody can help here.

Hi, regarding the tonearm, it needs the weight of the pickup cartridge to stay in the normal position. Secondly the arm will not track the record without a pickup cartridge fitted. Thirdly, the platter just lifts off, so no problem. Basically you need to fit a suitable pickup cartridge set at the correct tracking weight for the player to work properly. All the best Richard
