3 years ago I bought a Beovision 7-40 from a reputable dealer in the West Midlands. They told me that the TV had had a full HD upgrade. Certainly when I views HD channels the picture was a lot sharper. The type is 9354 which was HD ready not full HD. I am now selling the TV and have been told by a potential purchaser that unless the standby light is white - not red - the TV has not been fully upgraded. Does anyone know if this Is true?

I have a vague memory that at one point the BV7 range changed from red dots to white dots

It would be before 2010

I did not like it, the red is iconic IMHO and I think that they may have then reverted back to red.

Can I suggest you post your serial number )except for say the last 2 digits) and someone wiser than myself may be able to narrow it down to a specific year/model/capability for you

Hi cleveley and welcome to BeoWorld,

MK1 made FullHD - I would doubt that.

They should have replaced almost anything - panel, board tuner....

It was probably made HDReady.

Has it  got any HDMI's?

Are you watching from the internal tuner or an external?

In the last case: how is it connected to the tv?

The white dotmatrix came with the MK3, which was the first wirh BSys3 - a complete different BV.

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Hi there thanks for advice.

If it isn't HD why would HD TV channels look sharper? What "HD Ready" actually mean.

There are no HDMI inputs on the TV.  The HDMI cable from the digital box (Sky) is connected via an adapter into a SCART socket.

hd ready is min. 720 lines of resolution, which is hd tv in germany / sky has 1.080 lines, which is full hd. most people do not know, that if they do not have sky, the tv signal needs to upscaled to fit their full hd tv.... which works fine for blu-ray. My sat reciever changes resolution according to the source (dreambox),.

So, hd ready might just be enough, especially if you are not very close to the tv.

If you are comfortable with the picture, don't worry too much.

Picture experience beats tech specs!

Goooge for hd ready, screen sizes, distances etc.

Thank you Ralf - that explains everything. When I bought the TV the salesman definitely said that the TV had been upgraded but maybe he meant to HD REady rather than full HD. It is true that even at a reduced "HD rate" - to that of the 1080 used by Sky - the TV has a much sharper picture. In fact it is as good as another Toshiba full HD TV I have. So yes you're right it's the actual picture that counts rather than the technical spec.

Thank you so much for your help.

Kallasr is completely right, why worry if YOU are happy with the picture. I switch from a BeoVision 1 to a BV7 mattering on where I am in the house and have no issue with either picture quality.

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.
