Hello

My Beolab 7.1 gives sometimes a crackling sound in the right speakers. Sometimes it's over with a sharp crack and sometimes it's a low crackling that continues..

But next time you start it plays flawlessly!

Reason i'm posting is that my dealer can't seem to find the problem!

Can anyone shed some light to rectify this!

Many thnx in advance

Ernie

Ernie/Bart,

Exactly what fault finding has the dealer done to date ?

You have not stated if this is a new problem or the problem has always existed since the product was purchased ?

I am assuming your dealer has tested by swapping the speaker with another unit and you still have the problem, is this correct ?

The problem you have described is likely to be caused by an signal earthing (grounding) problem where RF (Radio Frequency) from elsewhere is being picked up on the signal ground. The first area I would be looking at would be the Powerlink cables to ensure they are of the correct type.

Let me know the answers to the above questions..

Keith,

Thanks for your input!

The power link cable is replaced, no difference.

the speaker dates from 2006, the problem came forward this year..

when i brougt the speaker in, they hadit connected and the problem occured almost immedately!

since then, on the technicians workbench, it play flawlessly and since the repair consists of swapping expensive modules they don,t know wich module to replace..

I myself have connected a very old Philps MFB and it plays great so the problem is indeed in the BL 7.1

i hope this goves you some more insight

thanks again!

That may not be true..

If your old Philips MFB has a mains earth connection and the problem is RF pickup, then it would work perfectly all the time because the case would be earthed.

The Beolab 7.1 and most modern AV equipment do NOT have a mains earth.

Given the unit apparently plays perfectly in the dealers workshop tends to confirm that you have some kind of RF pickup. Whilst you say that the dealer has swapped several modules in the unit, I am guessing they have not swapped the whole unit which is the only way you will be 100% sure that the Beolab 7.1 is or is not at fault.

One thing you could do to test my theory is connect a piece of wire between a metal part of the Beolab 7.1 and mains earth, if the problem goes away, then the unit is picking up RF in or around your home.

Master Keith was right!

I had an Apple TV device nearby!

I picked the BL 7 up today from dealer and after installation it was the same within several minutes. Disconnected the Apple TV from the mains and Eureka!

Unfortunately the dealer had in the meantime some parts replaced and this cost me 200 quid...

Thanks for your insights Keith, much appreciated!

Bye Bart

A eureka moment indeed if you have been that lucky to have found the source of your RF. Its usually a faulty component in the transformer/plug.

Hi Keith

After picking up my BL7 from dealer the crackling noise is gone, but a sharp single crack appears through the right side once! I switched my Apple tv off and that may have helped but an annoying crack isn't fun because it's loud and sharp..  I 've got a Beomedia as well underneath the speaker, could that be the cause? Also i've grounded the speaker but to no avial..

Any suggestions?

Tnx in advance

Bart
