general question on STB controllers and PUC

I am looking to change my Avant for either a Beovision 7 or 8. I notice that in some places it is mentioned that you can control other thing such as a DVD player with a PUC but only a satellite or digibox with the STB-C.

I have a sony dvd player (with smart tv functions - lovefil, iplayer and netflix) that is connected via scart and a lintronic box on the avant, the scart socket feed the lintronic box the DVD commands.

If I get a BV7 or BV8 will it be able to control it directly through the puc or will it need to be connected via scart and the lintornic box.

I'm in a quandry as I really like the fact that the Avant can display the picture in link room 

All older BeoVision's such as the AVANT used STB controller which has the control codes encoded in a chip whereas the PUC is software updateable.

It is an optional feature* - so in a sense all do (or can do) !

* at least on my BV 7-32 and 8-40 it was
