I have found a pair of BeoLab 4000 - Mk 1 - 1997 offered nearby.

Supposing it is in good technical and cosmetic conditions is it a sound option for a home office as a link room?

How does it age? Or a Mk 2 version or another model would be a better choice?

regards,

Mesm

I have a pair from around that time, still sounds perfect. Although I have not heard the difference myself, other users have reported that the MK1 sounds better than the MK2

BeoLab 4000 had only one flaw, the small mains transformer that powered the electronics whilst in “standby” was of poor quality in early examples and would frequently burn out.

During BeoLab 4000’s life, a substantial re-design was carried out, replacing the original linear class A/B amplifier with a class D “ICE Power” unit similar to that fitted to the BeoLab 4. This variant is known as the MK 2 and can be distinguished by the lack of a power switch on the front. Surprisingly, the rated power was reduced though the maximum sound pressure level remained unchanged.

I love my 4000s (2002), in one of them the standby transformer burned out, With help from the forum, got a new one, soldered it in, and the speaker have been working ever since

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
