Purchased at auction a Beogram 1100 and a pair of S45 Beovax Speakers. To make it operational do I need a Beomaster? Also grateful for assistance on Speaker and other cables required. Thanks in advance

Welcome to Beoworld.  Yes, you do need an amplifier to drive this system.  Such as:

http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=318

which is part of the Beosystem 1100.  Other tuner/amps of the same era work just as well depending on what style you like.

Straight forward speaker conections available via Steve at Sounds Heavenly (see bottom of page) or an 'auction site'.  The Beogram 1100 is the simplest of decks but perfectly useable.  I hope it was shipped with the transit screws fastened - if so, loosen them before use.  Check the cartridge (MMC300) normally fitted but others work too.  The S45 speakers are nice (S45-2 are better in some peoples opinion) but beware of magnets locking in the drivers which will result in the speakers not working properly if they have been jostled during transport - this has been covered on Beoworld plenty of times.

Good luck with your new purchases.

Dave.

Welcome to Beoworld.

Yes, you will need a Beomaster. Any Beomaster will work with the two pieces you mention but to be stylistically in keeping you might want to look at the 1100, 3000.2, the 4000 or even better, the 1500, 2200 or even a 4400.

As for cabling, the Beogram should have a captive signal cable ending in a 5 pin DIN plug which plugs into the phono socket of the Beomaster

You will also need speaker cables ending in 2 pin DIN plugs (one male and one female). Good quality made up cables of different lengths are available from one of the advertisers on this site (Sounds Heavenly). Steve, who runs it, is a regular contributor and very helpful.

There are two S45 types - one from the 70s with a single grille and one from the 80s with a split grille. The earlier ones are very good speakers.

Thank you both. Will this do the job?

Well that is an interesting find. The 1500 is quite rare and is seen far more commonly as part of a music centre - the Beomaster 4600 being the most seen. It is not that powerful but is of excellent quality, sharing the circuit design of the Beomaster 4400, which is one of the best receivers that B&O made. That particular one is certainly in beautiful condition and is priced accordingly.

That's the second BM 1500 to sell for a reasonable price in the last week.  Sold.  Did you buy it?

Dave.

I guess you mean the BeoCenter 4600 ;-)

But here in Denmark the Beomaster 1500 and BC 2600 (with cassetteplayer only)  is far more common than the BC 4600.

Yes, for some reason the BC4600 was more popular in the UK and the 2600 is even more scarce. The BC1400 and 1500 are more common.

Over here, we seem to have Beocenter 2800s (Beomaster + Beogram). One of those was actually my second piece of B&O kit - I only sold it because the lid was broken and impossible to fix, and the design wasn't too hot for me..

The amplifier certainly sounded very good, so any units of this family are well worth using. Prepare to do some work with sticking push buttons, though.

Hi, I purchased a Beomaster 1500 from ebay.co.uk in August for 27.99, arrived here 2 weeks ago, not a scratch on it, sounds magnificent, using it with my Beogram 1902, very pleased with it
