Hi

I find 3 majors advantages to choose the beolab 7 instead of the beolab 7.4 as center speaker :

- when you don't want to use your subwoofer, you just have to select speaker 1 and you have stereo sound

speaker 2,3,4 and 5 options use always the subwoofer

- when your pair of front speakers become faulty, you still have a good stereo speaker left

- the bl 7.2 or 7.6 is more powerfull

4 beolab 5,  beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2,  2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...

BUT...... The BL 7-2 does not have acoustic lense technology and does not perform as well as 7-4 in a surround setup.

Hi

I had both and this is a very little difference if you can hear it in a surround set up.

4 beolab 5,  beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2,  2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...

Hi

I have had both aswell and disagree on the missing difference in a surround setup. I find the 7-4 much more suitable as a center than 7-2. IMO the sound of dialog is just much more crisp with the acoustic lense.

Agree on your other observations though, as an overall speaker the 7-1/7-2/7-6 are better suited.

I had both, a 7.2 and then a 7.4+BL9s. The 7.4+BL9 combination blew away the 7.2 in every way.

The first thing I noticed was the 7.4 enables conversations to be clearer, due to the centre and alt. The BL9s were amazing for movies. So, the perfect all-round combination.

Granted, the 7.2 is way better than the sound from a BV11, but the 7.4+speakers (BL3s, BL18s, BL9s etc) takes some beating.

I have had all of them at one point in time (never the BL10), BL 7.4 wins the award by a lot if you have BL5's or BL9's. I found the lower 7's to be more than fine with say BL8k/6k.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

I just said if your bl9 are faulty, your 7.4 alone will be ridiculous compared to the 7.2.

There is absolutely no comparison possible between the bl 7.2 and a serious pair of icepower/alt speakers.

But for the advantages I mentioned, the bl 7.2 or 7.6 is the best solution.

I heard a bv 11.55 (father's tv), I was however impressed.  But I couldn't compare it side by side with a bl 7.2

So on a related note. Do you think the 7.4 is the best center speaker that they make? Or is the 10 better.

I ask as I am looking for the best center to use with a projector. The center channel would be hidden behind the screen so looks don't matter.

Joined by the right alts (BL3, BL9 etc), the 7.4 is the best centre speaker in my opinion, yes. The 7.2 is probably the best as a standalone centre.

Although not exactly the same, but I love the mono alt speaker in my BV9!

Too long to list....

I think they are darn near identical in my mind.
