Just heard that B&O Liverpool has been converted into B&O's first outlet store.

Apparently this means that they will only be selling outgoing models in future. The downside for me is that this means that they no longer have BV11's on display, so are now unable to replicate possible BV11 faults in the shop (like the BBC iPlayer issue) before reporting issues to Struer.

The whole B&O sales strategy is starting to look very complex, but maybe an outlet store is just following something that the likes of Bose did years ago.

Thanks for this Graham, it will be interesting to see how this concept works with a product like B&O.

I wish they did something similar down here. Until recently, the South West was blessed with a number of B&O stores, until a couple closed down. An outlet store might have worked well here.

I've always said that B&O should have spent more resources on promoting and sell pre-loved items, to an audience who can't quite afford the full priced products. You walk in to a B&O store these days and there's no mention of pre-loved equipment. All dealers stock pre-loved products, but they are rarely promoted anywhere. You'd never know as a general member of the public, as an example. All they see is the full priced current products.

The previous owner of my local store was very much in to deals, pre-loved offers and more. B&O didn't like that and is one reason why he was forced out. I felt the store was more 'in tune' to their customer-base though, when these deals and pre-loved items were featured in the store itself!

Very cool! If you ask me this was long overdue! I would see this being a hit in the US if the reduced price is in line.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

I think most dealers just don't have the display space to show old stock and trade-ins all year round. We are currently loading the store up with trade-ins and discontinued stock in readiness for our 'sale' commencing on 27th December...

What ever happened to the pre owned search function for B&O stores?

True. I was wondering the same thing. When I was looking for a BV10-32, I did a search via the entire UK store network. Went to do something similar the other day and this function has disappeared.

The American B&O site still has a pre-owned section with its own web domain preownedbangolufsen.com, and the new items for online purchase are at shopbangolufsen.com.

The main B&O site is very difficult to navigate and find what you want... it is often easier to just do a general google search to find the right pages.

The store webpage for B&O Liverpool remains unchanged, with just the same few demonstration items listed and the main entry being about the latest B&O offerings, even though they have no current equipment for sale and I understand that they no longer sell any BeoPlay products either.

Maybe some further website updates are imminent?

Outlet store?!

Horrible idea! This will only degrade the brand.

Why buy something now...? It will hit the outlet store in a few months...!

On the other hand it is just a reorganisation of what goes on anyway, except that it might reduce the possibility of someone buying a product at full price without realising that it has already gone out of production. It remains to be seen whether this new approach will mean that, for example, the last of the A3‘s would not now have been dumped with a German discount store but would have marketed at a big further discount from an official B&O outlet.

Dumping the last A3's provided some bargains but did not do B&O's image much good. The same could be said of the Costco deal reported in another thread.

well it's not just B&O having a hard time, my local Sony Store in Wimbledon has just been replaced by a Teddy Bear Workshop and they had recently carried out a major refit.

The A3 now relies on an obsolete iPad model. The choice was obviously ,as with the A8 when Apple changed the 25 pin plug, do B&O introduce an adapter or just cut their losses. The A3 obviously didn't merit the work of making an adapter , but with damage to the brand image by getting into Costco .

Beo Century ,Beoplay V1, Beocenter 6, Ex-Beolit 12, Beotime , A8. Beolit 15 , Form 2i , Beolab 2000, Beoplay A3.Beosound 1

Whoever allowed B&O to be sold in Costco should be sacked. What are the management at B&O doing by degrading the brand and once again letting their dealers down who have spent over £4000 on fixtures and fittings to display Play products on.

It will take quite a few years/decades to claw the money back spent on the above based on the margin in B&O Play.

I see no issue with an Outlet store hosted by the brand for end on life stock, display items and dead on arrival items. Just stop selling the brand to any Tom, *** and Harry with a van!

Merry Christmas to one and all.

I remember when we used to have second life products with a guide book telling us how much the products where worth, how times have changed, now we have a few different places doing b & o, then they want to do there own stores, concept is good but I feel its to little to late. I like the sound of some of the new products, but they need to pay attention to there market that made them who they are and listen to there customers

Website seems to be now updated:

"We are pleased and excited to be the first official Bang & Olufsen Outlet store in the UK.

We carry a wide range of discontinued products that have been thoroughly tested and are sold with at least a full 12 month warranty. As we are owned and operated by Bang & Olufsen UK, we have access to a large pool of stock from other company owned stores around the country.

Products are set up in the showroom for demonstration and we can advise you how this could connect to an existing system if you already have one.

Store Location

Castle Street is in the heart of the Business District & boasts some wonderful restaurants & bars, and is minutes from Liverpool One.  Being located on Castle Street affords us a great view of events and attractions that culminate at the Town hall.

Why not bookmark this webpage to enable you to keep up to date with everything that is happening at Bang & Olufsen of Liverpool.

We look forward to welcoming you to the showroom soon!"

Ex display and discontinued stock

We stock a large range of recently discontinued lines all covered by at least a 12 month warranty.

If you are looking for a specific product, please call the showroom on 0151 236 3000 or drop us an e-mail. If we don't have the item in Liverpool, we can see if one of our other stores has one that we can have transferred for you."

(Many Bv10's listed etc, and contrary to B&O's usual approach the prices appear to include motorised stands etc with the TV's.)

Good luck to Nick ('Opman' on Beoworld who confines his posts to technical advice) and his colleagues in this new venture.

Graham
