I have just inherited a Beosound 3000 with the most basic of the B&O remotes - no screen. I can't get any sound out (except by plugging headphones into main unit - so that is working!). This is a stand alone system with B&O 35 Passive Speakers. There is a MAsterlink cable in back of CD unit, that then splits into two - one goes into the power/distribution unit and the other is free? I have tried swapping these around but no help. I did read somewhere about setting Option 1, but handset has no sound button (SOUND, 1, STORE) and does not work if I try this on the CD unit? Ideas anyone? Thanks.

Good morning, Merry Xmas and Welcome to Beoworld - what do you fly??

The Beosound 3000 would normally need active 'Beolab' speakers so that could be your problem, or is the 'Power/Distribution' unit that you mention an amplifier?  What do the labels say?

I think we may need more details before we can assist!

Hi. The Beosound 3000 requires either beolab speakers ( which are active) OR a separate Beolink passive amplifier (which you would need to drive your S35 speakers, as they are passive). The usual amplifier in this situation is the MCL2P ( which I have with my 3000), and the correct power link cable connected to the power link socket on the back of the 3000.

If the S35 speakers came with the 3000 then there should have been a separate amp of some kind with it to drive the speakers. The remote you have sounds like a Beolink 1000 and this is fine for operation of the 3000.

Graeme.

Hi Jeremy,

In that case you need a PowerLink cable (8 pin DIN at each end) from one of the two Powerlink sockets in the centre of the BS3000 socket panel.  This connects to the Powerlink input socket on the MCL2P.

Of course you also need speaker cables and a power cable attached to the MCL2P.  The MCL2P should then switch on (you hear an audible click) when you switch on the BS3000.

You should not need a Mastelink cable (this has bespoke B&O rectanular plugs at each end, and would usually be used if you are routing the audio to another room).

I hope this works!

Guy
