Hi,
I have an early Beocenter 2500 (Type 2601) and would like to extend it with a Playmaker. Since the PM will be the primary music source, I'd like to connect the BC2500 (PL out) to the PM line-in, which will drive a pair of Penta III.
I understand that the PM accepts A.AUX commands from the Beo4 and would like to use that for basic navigation and volume control.
But then I'd have 2 A.AUX "devices" in a room and both would react to the Beo4 commands.
Is there a way to set the Audio Options for the PM and BC2500 so that they don't conflict?
And, finally, do we have any news about the new Playmaker?

The better solution would be for you to connect the PM to your Aux-In on the BeoCenter rather than the other way around. You then need to only set the PM to fixed output and put the PM in A.Opt 0. You simply select A.Aux as before on the BC2500 and viola. Aside from your Penta display's still working you'll also have a spare signal sensing Aux you can use on the PM to connect to another source.
Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there
OK, makes sense.
Does it mean that the BC2500->PM->Penta setup, would not work? I would prefer this solution as it would leave the BC turned off most of the time.
Yes, it will work if you set it up the right way. I would do the same if the BC is turned off most of the time.
You said earlier to connect the PL-out to the PM, but you better use the (fixed) line out of the BC. That's the 7-pins connector.
Put your PM in A.OPT 4.. Setup your beo4 in a continuous LINK MODE: Press Stby and List same time, press List again till you see CONFIG in the display, followed by 2,0,0,2. You should see "LINKED ON" in the display. Press EXIT. Now only your PM will respond to commands from your beo4.
If you want the BC to respond to the beo4 only, you first need to add the LINK command in your list in the beo4. Now just press List till you see LINK, followed by RADIO or CD.

BeoNut since '75
Normally you use the ”LINK - source” command if you have a 2 products in the same room. But if your 2nd product is used the most, it is easier if the beo4 sends the LINK-command automatically before the normal command. That’s what it does.
Another example: Suppose you have a TV in the living and a BL3500 (L.OPT4) in an open kitchen. A beo4 for your TV and another beo4 for the kitchen. If you config the latter beo4 in a continuous LINK-mode, you won’t have to list to LINK first. If you want the same beo4 to respond to the TV, you do. The LINK-command will now be unLINKed.
Sounds good. I'll give it a try.
I have a spare Beolink 1000. Does it support the continuous LINK MODE, too?
I don't thinks so. The very first beo4's neither.
The Beo4 software level has to be a minimum of 5.0 to make it a link remote.
To find out the S/W level, first press STANDBY and LIST simultaneously, then press GO and MENU at the same time, and then press LIST repeatedly for each value.
The problem about putting one of your BEO4's (that is if you have more than one) into Link-Mode is that they hardly ever stay in the same place.
Often one Beo4 is taken to another room, because 'you just had that one in your hand'.
They get messed up - and your wife (or the kids or the guests) don't understand 'why it doesn't work as supposed'.

There is a tv - and there is a BV

In the meantime, I have finalized the setup and cabling.
The PM Aux IN is now connected to the BC Aux OUT.
The PL from the Playmaker is connected with a RJ45-DIN (female) adapter to the Pentas. It is interesting that the Penta displays are stil getting some signal from the PM and display "random" information. Could be A-TAPE2 or LOAD... I was expecting that the displays would be off, when connected to the PM.
To solve this problem, I disconnected PIN7/8 from the Powerlink plug (which is connected to the PM through the adapter), extended the cable for PIN 7/8 and soldered a DIN plug to the 2 wires. This DIN plug is now connected to the PL out of the Beocenter. The displays work now as expected and I even get the correct source information on the Penta displays.
I still need to decide if I go for a Android or Apple device. I'd prefer Android and I really like the new Lenovo Yoga 8 (http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/tablets/ideatab/yoga/yoga-8/).
However, there are some remarks on this forum that DLNA is less stable than Airplay and with Android I'd still need to get an App to access the music on my NAS and I am not clear what the best app would be.
Fine that you got it working.
But this efford is all for the sake of seeing 'what' on the Penta-display??
BeoMegaMan described the easiest solution in his first post.
With that you would have been able to use the BC2500 as always (with all display functions).
To use the Playmaker sources you would have to push A-AUX on the Beo4 (with the Penta display showing A-AUX) and then simply choose what you want to hear from your Smartphone/iDevice...
The Playmaker autoswitches the (3) inputs - no need for any Beo4 control for that.
All volumen control goes to the BC2500.
You could even hide the PM if that is wanted.
------
If you go for the Android solution, you would (in either case) need a DLNA compatible app like 'Bubble upnp' or 'Skifta'. It would depend on how stable your server (DLNA server on a PC/NAS) is, if you will be happy with that. Android and AirPlay aren't the best of friends!
Using an iDevice/AirPlay would give you a stable solution (depending on your router settings) - and you could airplay services like Spotify and internet radio with ease.
There are DLNA app's for iDevices as well, like PlugPlayer and 8Player - this way you can also access your local (DLNA-based) media.
Greetings Millemissen
The advantage, in the the BC->PM->Loudspeaker setup, is that the BC does not need to be turned on all the time, when the PM is playing. And, when I turn on wireless playback, from WHATEVERDevice, I don't need to activate the BC. And when I turn on CD/Radio, the auto-sensing of the PM, takes care of activating the loudspeakers. Perfect, but slightly more cabling
//Bo.A long list...

That's brilliant!
