Which Beogram recordplayer matches best with the Beolab 5000 classic?

I guess the Thorens 3000 but I would be tempted to go for the 4000.

Depends on what you mean by 'matches' - sound quality, period piece match or visually?

I use a BG 4000 with mine (with an MMC20CL) and am very please with the sound quality and visually. The Thorens 3000 or Acoustical are what were meant to be with the 5000 system as you will be aware but very expensive and hard to find good ones.

You could also use BG 4002/4004 as visually they look similar to the 4000 but not quite as good!  I'm sure you have a selection of BG's available - just try a few and hear how they sound and look next to the 5000 system.

I too use a Beogram 4000 to great effect. The 3000 (TD124) is impossible to find.

I use the Thorens with mine but have also used the 4000. The main difference is that the bass on the Thorens seems far more extended. Lovely deck. The other deck to consider would be the vintage Beogram 1800.

Dave Farr:

It does look awesome but I haven't set-up the tonearm yet as it's a very difficult and long job to do properly.

Dave.

I  can confirm that!

I also had a JA Michel turntable with a unipivot tonearm back in the seventies and it was a right pain to set up properly.  In fact, a lot of people opted for the SME 3009 instead and I can understand why.

I gave up in the end and bought a Beogram 4000

It does Dave (awesome), no competition compared to B&O plastic junk like 5005.5500/6500/7000 series Big Smile

Anyway I'm expecting a Beogram 3000 Acoustical soonWhistle

The Acoustical is a bit like a big BG1000. It does use the same motor as the Thorens but in my experience it is nothing like as good. An interesting sub-note to the 5000 system - I was very lucky finding one when neither the seller or I knew what it was!
