I am wondering how the amp in the Beolink Passive (or ML/MCL Converter as I think they are the same product) would compare to the one inside a Beocenter 9000...
In this setup, I have a BV10 connected to a Beocenter 9000 using a Beolink converter and the passive speakers (Cabasse) are connected directly to the Beocenter 9000.
I cannot use the surround sound of the TV.
I am planning on connecting the passive speakers to the TV instead using the Beolink passive as an Amp, and I am wondering if I'll lose in quality and power.

Found this in the specs section:
Beocenter 9000 :
Amplifier: Long-term max. output power IEC 2 x 80 watts / 8 ohms Power output 20 - 20,000 Hz IHF 2 x 30 watts / 8 ohms Total harmonic distortion IHF < 0.1 % & 30 watts 20 - 20,000 Hz Dynamic headroom 1 dB / 8 ohms Intermodulation IHF < 0.1 %
Beolink Passive :
Long-term max. output power IEC 2 x 60 watts / 8 ohms
So I suppose I'll lose in power...
Depends on how much power you need/want.
I would give it a try!.
Sometime ago I used the amp to drive a set of BeoVox 5000 as frontspeaker - that worked quite well.
You could use the amp later on for passive rears, if you upgrade to BeoLabs as frontspeakers later on
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
Both he MCL2P/Beolink passive and all BC9000 based units share the same Hybrid power amplifier module (Sanyo STK4151-V). Also BM 3500/4500 have the same.
The are all 2x30 output despite the differences in the specs.
//Bo.A long list...
That's very helpful, thanks.
Have ordered one from eBay.
to me it sounds as you have the amp, speakers and the TV in the same room and like to use the speakers connected to the BC9000 as left and right front, combined with the BV10 as center in a surround setup. if that is correct you could skip the ML/MCL converter and connect the PL out of the BV10 to Aux on the BC9000, then set the BC to a fixed volume, quite hight and let the TV do the rest.
you would in this way lose link controll, and of course I don't know the rest of your setup and if you need it... so just a suggestion

Thanks but we need to use the Beosound as before.
don't want to confuse things more, but started thinking of this. You should be ablo to use the BC just as before and use the option that I suggested when you want surround sound only, just remember to set the volume of the BC the same each time. I mean nothing is changed to the setup besides adding two of these # and a RCA cable in between (and yes the pinout is correct for PL out and AUX in)
again just a suggestion, to wright so one is interpreted as humble in forign language is not always easy
Connecting the speakers to the tv, and the tv through the BeoLink Converter to the BC9000 (in option 0) will give you the easiest way to control your system.
No 'fiddling around' with volume settings in two systems needed - and you have the BV-speakers right setup as center-speaker, when you watch a videosource.
Just as you already planned it!
