What do you use DLNA for on you B&O TV, and what can it be used for.
I would like to stream content from a PC and from Android phones. Both picture, as in mirror screen, and at least sound as in streaming Spotify. Is that at all possible and does it depend on the sending device, as in requires software?
Thanks in advance
Cheers
Goran
I have a server which have a DLNA server installed, and then i can watch my movies directly from BV11.... and listen to music of cause. ;-)

Hi,
Hi Goran,
DLNA is a way to couple devices to each other in a network in order to show content from one device on another device.
The 'Home Media' player in V1 (and BV11...)) is a DLNA compatible application.
If you want to see and/or listen to media files you need a DLNA server (software) that 'categorizes' the files/makes them avaible for the client.
The server can be installed on several different devices: a smartphone (as an app), a PC/MAC, a NAS....
When you start the 'Home Media' part of the V1 you can 'see' the content of the server over the network connection - and you can play it!
You can't use Spotify this way, but the V1 has its own Spotify application built in.
And a Youtube application too.
You can't 'mirror screen' direct to the V1 - for this you need additional hardware like the Apple TV for that.
There is other hardware coming: http://airtame.com/
Hope this helps.
Greetings Millemissen
There is a tv - and there is a BV
You can't mirror your screen through DLNA, you need to connect your PC with a HDMI for that.
The DNLA feature on the TV needs some form of shared content. This can either be from your PC acting as a media server, or from a dedicated server.
V1 has a Spotify App built in. You need a Premium Spotify account to use the feature. I would recommend using this feature.
The only real alternative I can think of is Apple TV. You can connect a Apple TV to the V1 and use a program like Airparrot to stream sound from your PC to any Airplay enabled device and this includes the Apple TV. The same solution can be used to mirror your PC image to Apple TV.
Beovision Eclipse gen2 (GX) w/ floorstand, Beolab 14.2, 4 speaker Shape and ATV4/Chromecast.
Beoplay A9mk4 GVA, Beosound 1 GVA, H2, H3, H8, E6, Beoplay EQ
Thanks for the quick answers!
Funny you should mention the Apple TV since this was my first alternative. The Apple TV was going to be a christmas gift to my parents who own the V1. But since they have no I-devices what so ever…. (my first thought was that it must be possible to solve with a app on the android phones… and showing pictures on the PC, mirroring to the TV with some airplay software for PC . But some research on Google, made me think there is really no easy way (just a lot of apps promising this, but really doing something else)
I will check the options with AirParrot. But do you have first-hand experience with it?
Personally I use Airfoil, but this program only allows for audio Airplay. No video.
Think I'll test the Airparrot later today :)
I have a 4 year old Panasonic DLNA enabled plasma and a win7 laptop. With the laptop media folder set to share my TV can "see" the music and movies on my laptop and can stream both, i.e. the laptop is acting as a DNLA server. It will not however play all movie formats, I guess this is a limitation of the TV and/or the DNLA format.
It cannot mirror the laptop display to the TV, although that is coming in newer devices with Intel "WiDi" and some of the latest TV's (Samsung) allegedly have WiDi support built in.
Ban boring signatures!
I use Air Parrot. It is fine, but I find Chromecast better. You can install it inside the V1 by using the extension cable for HDMI and the USB port for power. Add it as a source, then use the app on Windows or Mac to share screen. Costs about the same as an iParrot
So from the webpage and the specs Airparrot looks promising.
It would be very nice of you to report back on your test Mikael.
Regarding using Spotify on the V1. Can it be controlled by any other way than Beo4 (remember no I-thing in the house ;) ) even from another room?
So if Airparrot turns out to work fine, the Apple TV is definitely a good solution for PC mirroring, and also for Netflix which was the first reason to buy it. But it would also be nice to have the possibility to stream Spotify from an android to the apple TV, the reason to use an external media player for Spotify is to get sound via the analogue out (in ATV case 3,5mm jack) via the Beomaster in the same room to the MCL in the kitchen. See also info on the “Din to Scart adapter” from B&O here.
Just tried AirParrot, and I'm a bit disappointed to honest.
Setup and ease of use is very good, but there are some limitations:
The framerate is too low to watch video
The sound quality is poor
There is a sleight lag which makes it impossible to use the TV as a primary screen
So all in all AirParrot is great for showing others whats on your screen and for photos. Anything is not good enough. At least not for my expectations.
AirFoil (which only handles audio) works by turning your computer into an Airplay device. You can then select which programs should send sound to the ATV. This works very well and the sound quality is just like any other Airplay device, which is good for anyone other than an audiophile.
The downside to Airfoil is the lack of screen mirroring, but why do you need this?
The Spotify App can be controlled with any remote that can control the V1: Beo4, Beo5 and iPad.
The best way to get Netflix on the V1 is by installing the ATV and use the Netflix app on the ATV.
Any one tried accessing PLEX's DLNA server function from a V1 ?
BeoNut since '75
Yeah I use it once in while. Works OK, expect the V1 doesn't automatically update the content of the server once you enter the Media-player. So you need to restart the TV if you update the content on the server.
I primarily use my ATV3 with PlexConnect to play content from my Plex Media Server. This works very well and the interface is much neater than the media player in the V1.

Thanks !
I tried PlexConnect and it was/is a great idea - I seemed to have two short comings:
a) the relay through the MacMini for other services seemed slow ... maybe it needed some TCP/IP tuning (and in general the house seems to have a problem at the moment -we are not sure if it is the Time Capsule's wifi. Mavericks, iOS7, or the ISP)
b) the constant arms race between ATV upgrades (keep them coming Apple) and PlexConnect's "beta" status was a bit much for me when I was traveling & working long hours/weekends
but I am glad it works for you !
For day to day (keep the family happy) usage we use Plex on our iPad generation 1 to airplay to out ATV ... I was interested in whether the PLEX - Home Theatre release was going to make a better choice
Apple tried to block the use of the Trailer App for different purposes such as PlexConnect by requiring some form of SSL connection. This made it a bit trickier to setup up, but once I got it working, I've never experienced any real problems ever since. Some times a movie is slow to start, but most of the time this comes down to the transcoding needed.
With the new setup I'm not really concerned with future Apple updates. It seems like the PlexConnect people have found a really sturdy way to keep it running. It will be hard for Apple to block it.
95% of the time, every works really smoothly with minimal to no loading time when navigating the menus.
The only real downside at the moment is the lack of FLAC support. As I understand it Plex supports it, but PlexConnect cannot handle it at the moment. This is in fact the only time I use the V1 Media Player. To play FLAC songs.
Havn't tried the Home Theatre, as the PlexConnect seems to fit my every need for a media player solution.
Thank you for your answers and efforts to test the things out, hightly apriciated.
I think ATV is the way to go then, for netflix and streaming sound with airfoil. And then maybe airparrot for showing pictures from the computer without a DLNA server.
thanks again

The beauty of the ATV solution is that it integrates completely with the V1 and doesn't feel like a stand alone product. Its tucked away in the V1 and controlled by the Beo4, a stroke of genius by B&O.
I'm sure you will be satisfied with the V1+ATV combo as it is really versatile.
