Fellow members - I purchased a Beogram 5005 with MMC3 in fairly decent cosmetic condition, and what was listed as being perfect in performance - we all know how that goes. Anyhow, I can tell it needs a belt but there is this scraping noise from the rear of the unit as soon as the platter starts to turn. If I remove the platter and spin the plinth that the platter sits on I do not hear the noise. Anyone feel like addressing this? I would really appreciate it before it cost me 200+ to repair it as I already paid good money for it.
A scraping noise without a record is normal. It's because the puck is also a lock that prevents the deck to go to play position, when no record is on.
dismantled it. cleaned it. greased and lubed it, added a washer to the spindle - problem solved. Good as new. Side note: no turntable should make a scraping noise.
If you are talking about normal play position, of course there should be no noise, no need for that side note. Another side note: the hight of the subchassis can be easily adjusted by the tension of the 3 flat springs.
ProGram - sorry, sometimes post and emails can be taken out of text - no emotion. I found that the platter was scraping against the tang arm wheel. I placed a very thin washer over the spindle shaft and she's 100%. thank you for your advice!
