Hi,

I use a non-B&O pre (Emotiva UMC-200) and the trigger adapter RCA -> Powerlink from Av-connection. With my Beolab 4000 it works!

I'm looking for Beoalb 3 to change the old 4000. But Beolab 3 needs a Powerlink MK3. And I have a Powerlink MK2 cable plugged onto the av-connection adapter.

I read this "This is because Mark III contains an additional voltage reference wire intended to prevent background hum." (http://beophile.com/?page_id=13249)

And B&O write in the Beolab 3 User's Guide: "Do not use any of the old type of Power Link cables, as this will cause noise, and thus not give optimum sound quality!" And in fact, when my Beolab 7-4 turn on with your trigger adapter (without any music) I hear a little noise (shhhhhh) in the tweeter…

May I use the MK2 Powerlink cable onto Beolab 3 ? Or should I DIY a connector with a system-mass (blue) on PIN 7 ?

Thanks a lot for any advice

Mark 2 cable will work fine. Just don't use Mark 1

That's right... Thanks a lot because this thread didn't appear when I searched.

Yes we can! I quote here the answer: you can use MK2 cables for connecting Beolab 3 MK3:

9 LEE:

Mk1 and Mk3 are the same thickness (i.e. thin !!) and it's the Mk2 which are pretty thick thanks to being fully wired & shielded.

Mk1 are for non IcePower speakers (for example the BeoLab 6000, early BeoLab 4000, BeoLab 8000)

Mk3 are for IcePowered (for example BeoLab 8002, BeoLab 6002, BeoLab 3)

Mk2 are for everything and can also carry data signals, so are perfect for BeoLab Penta.

I believe it is recommended to use original B&O MKIII PL or fully mounted PL as it reduces the noise in the audio signal built up in the switch mode power supply. The extra cable reduces noise on the data ground, blue cable pin 7.

How should I do, when my source is a non-B&O preamp: Emotiva UMC-200.

I use the 7.1 RCA outputs, with each the trigger adapter RCA ->PL of av-connection.dk... ? http://www.av-connection.dk/?ML=2126

Thanks

Sorry I didn't read your original post properly.

Try this, cut off the PL end and strip the cable back use the green as the positive and the green/white with half the outer screen as the negative for one phono plug.

Use the brown as the positive and the brown/white with the other half of the outer screen as the negative for the other phono plug.

I wouldn't cut it... The adapter cable you use now has no white/green and white/brown wires. It's not a network cable!

This adapter cable should already have pin7 shortcutted to pin2. Just swap your BL4000 with the BL3. You'll be fine!

You are right! What I was writing about applies to network cable, doh! However what I did write about is true when using BeoLab 14 for example with a non B&O AV receiver at line level., this cures any hum off the receiver.

It's interesting for me... Can you just explain what should I do for a cable/adapter to do this? What do you have to do when connectin a non-B&O receiver with RCA/CINCH pre-out audio outputs? After all my existing central 7-4 also theorically needs PL MK3... Wink
