Does anyone know if the tracking weight of the cartridge can be increased? Compared to an old Technics turntable my Beogram has a much lower volume. It sounds "thin." I've compared the two turntables through a Marantz 2270 simultaneously, switching from Phono 1 to Phono 2. What could be the problem?
Welcome to Beoworld !
Increasing the tracking force will not increase the amplitude of the output signal.Note that the MMC1-5 cartridges are neither MM (Moving Magnet) nor MC (Moving Coil)but MMC (Moving Micro Cross - as the name suggests).Connected to a MM input, the volume will be a bit on the low side.

Thanks. Would connecting through an external phono preamp help? Would a Soundsmith cartridge help the volume?
Obviously, you need a preamp somewhere in the line containing RIAA correctional filtering. If your amplifier does not have RIAA the sound from the Beogram will indeed be very thin and at a quite low volumewith an extremely high amount of treble and practically no bass.In this case you will definitely need a preamplifier with RIAA.If the quality of the sound is actually OK, only slightly low in volume compared to other sources, you will have to eitherlive with it, see if your amplifier has some kind of internal or external adjustments to compensate or buy aB&O receiver, where your Beogram will fit.
The Soundsmith cartridges are just like B&O originals in this aspect.
