Greetings folks, I'm new here and could use a little sage advice.  I have two Beogram TTs, A TX and TX-2 and the above Beomaster (all amazing yard sale and thrift store scores), and I love all three, so I'm very happy this site exists.  One of the two RCA phono inputs on the receiver works perfectly, and the other is not getting preamplification, it's only functioning as a regular line level input.  Anybody out there have a similar issue, or any insights into what the problem may be? Is this a common issue in this receiver? Any help appreciated.

there is no issue, I assume it was designed for turntables with a built in line level RIAA amp. Purchasing a later Beogram (4500, 6500 7000) with built in amp would be an option or an external phono pre amp.

Step1, thanks for the quick reply.  Let me just make sure I'm on the right page.  So, You're saying, even though Phono Input 1 does contain internal preamplification, Phono Input 2 was designed to give the user the alternative to use a player with it's own built-in preamp or with an external preamp.  This is very good news and makes sense, in light of the existence of Beograms with built-in preamps.  BTW, do you have any idea of where I might find a free viewable copy of the user manual for this receiver?

As Step1 explained, the second phono input is for ceramic cartridges (for old 78 RPM decks!), it is essentially just an auxillary input. You'll need a RIAA preamplifier or a simple switch to get both turntables online Smile

Hi Soren,

You mentioned that the Phono 2 input on a Beomaster 3000-2 "is effectively just an auxiliary input". Would it be safe and useable to connect something such as a Sony TV using that input?

Regards, Brendan.

Hi Brendan,

You can connect any line level source to the Phono 2 input without any problems - from iPods to TV's.
