Hi Beoworld,
I'm new to this forum and this is my first post. I tried looking for a similar problem, but didn't have any luck finding any. So here goes.
I have a Beogram 8000 (I don't know what the type number is) and I noticed that a closed lid during playback makes some of my records sound warped. Once I open the lid the effect goes away and comes back the same second I close the lid again.
I can see that the lid curves a bit in the back when closed, where the closing mechanism is located. But I can't see the lid having any direct affect on the needle arm when closed.
Have anyone experienced anything like this before? I have adjusted the needle pressure a few months ago, according to the manual for the pickup, so that should be correct.
I haven't tried disassembling it since I just discovered the problem and wanted to find people with any experience on the matter.
Thanks!
Welcome to Beoworld !
If you put your ear to the Beogram, can you tell if the motor is humming at a frequency corresponding toeach revolution of the platter ?
Martin
Hi Martin,
I tried listening and I can hear a pretty constant humming. Whether or not it is consistent with the frequency I'm not sure. Besides it's pretty silent actually. I tried removing the metal plate and the platter, and that gave the same result when listening.
The problem happens in the last centimeter of closing the lid. If that makes any sense.
Thanks,
Theis
I have no idea what this could be.Where in Denmark are you ?
I'm living in Vanløse.
I just made a new discovery. I appears that the lid only affects the playback when the needle is in the beginning of the record. Just tried opening and closing the lid while playing one of the last songs and it didn't seem to have any affect.
I noticed that one of the hinges of the lid i positioned right behind the needle arm when playing the outer part of a record. Could it be the hinge that somehow squeezes the arm or something like that?
Best,
If I understand what you say correctly, it's the platter speed that changes or begins to wow when youclose the dustcover.Wow in Beogram 8000 is in the far majority of cases caused by a bad tachodisc, bad capacitors, cracked solderjoints, worn main bearing nylon insert or any combination.I can't see the tonearm having any effect on the platters rotational speed, regardless of where and how itgets pushed or squeezed.Could it be the edge of the record being played scraping on the surrounding aluminium surface ?
About 10 km from me...
Since my knowledge of turntables is limited, I can't deny that it can be either of the above mentioned issues. If so, I don't know what to look for. All I can say is that I can't see any parts physically causing the problem. Only that the problem exists on the first part of the record being played when the lid is closed. So far I found out that the tachodisc is made from metal, so that is good news.
Where are you located?
