Hi,
My first post so please be gentle.
I have been given a BeoCenter 8500 and some Penta MK1 speakers.
The speakers are in excellent cosmetic condition considering their age. The rubber surrounding the speaker cones on some of the mid range drivers is perishing and could do with replacing. Everything else is perfect.
The BeoCentre is in perfect condition and works apart from the CD drawer which keeps opening when I put a CD in. I open the drawer, close it/press play and it closes, then automatically opens again. It stays closed when there is no CD in the drawer.
My questions is really this...........
What should I do with them?!
I have looked on line to see if the CD drawer issue is a common one but have found nothing. Do I pay for a professional to fix it, or just sell it as it is? Does anyone have an idea what it would sell for?
I would love to repair the speakers myself and use them with my home cinema system (which runs from a PC). Would this be an option, or do I need to run the speakers directly from a B and O system, or through another amplifier?
I know this is loads of information and questions but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Chris
Keep them, fix it and then sell if you still want to do that.
Most probably your CD player board has a bad cap that needs to be replaced (approx. 80 cents).
Penta midrange drivers needs new rings (approx. 20 euro).

Hi Leslie,
Thanks for the response. I have seen a great tutorial to replace the penta rings, looking forward to that job actually.
I would have no idea how to fix the CD player board though!!
I must have a thread where you can see how this should be done. Search for C2103 on this forum. If no succes repairing it I have some cd units left. Good luck and show us some or lots of pictures of the result :-)
Thanks I will have a look!!
