I was "inspired" to ask this depressing question (all technology ultimately will fail ....) by the What is your best b&o purchase ? and the our BeoTalk 1200 ... and its associated BeoCom 6000.

They actually get more use than our BeoVision (certainly by the wife) and are certainly more necessary (although mobiles are an emergency answer) ... so their loss, and the fact that there are no B&O replacements, make them our vote for BeoDesolation Loss and Devastation Crying

BeoNut since '75

BeoCom's are for most people the first foray into Bang & Olufsen as they are affordable in relative terms..

It's a shame, yes - but land lines are becoming very old-tech these days.

Land lines remain essential for many bank reference requirements because they are physically attached to a property! Also, many people avoid calling mobiles unless they have an all-in call package. But yes, we are moving towards mobiles overtaking land lines.

As we found with a recent four hour power cut affecting a large area, all the mobile masts also go down with the power, so you are totally isolated without a land line (or broadband) connection in these circumstances.

Over here the mobiles are on battery backup, they go down though in about a day or two. I was in Orlando Florida a few years back when the three hurricanes in a row went over the top of us. The first one was the most devastating, and took out the land lines, and in about a day and a half all the cell lines went down as I recall. Was less than 2 days as I remember.

Central Florida in the summer without air conditioning, ice, power, etc. was loads of fun. Our power was out for 4 days, others were out for over a week.

I think the thing that will hurt most is when something happens to my BS9000 that renders it an unrepairable doorstop. It's the centerpiece of my audio setup, for the whole house as well with Masterlink.

I also would truly miss my Beotime.

Hello,

My beloved 1987 Beocenter 9000.

Despite the great help from Martin and Leslie who brought back to life the CD deck, the tape deck is defective and replacement modules are no more available.

The unit is in the hands of my dealer's tech for several electronic defects which should be cured.

But it is clear that it's the last time it will be repaired, spare parts and skilled techs are so difficult to find nowadays.

It was my first B&O system, together with Beogram 6006 (still alive desptite of a lazy up/down arm) and losing it will be a real pain.

Yann.

As it is the loss has allready taken place of my B&O collection anyway.

That means either you collect or use it. I try use it as often as I can and for keeping it running well when its needed I got Dillen to help me.

So again there is no loss in my opinion.

As for the BS9000 it is sad that people drop their cd collections and can't spend their time enjoying the thing. I had a MKIII briefly and I just prefered 1 cd player so I sold it on.

Then vi have CTR Beovisions. Many still work but not many people cares anymore.

I have a tall pole mounted Beocenter 1 CRT television in the bedroom, and it has a superb picture and sound, and looks really good when switched off and in its parked position. I bought it for only 10% of its new price, and it had hardly been used by the first owner.

I will be very unhappy when, eventually, some component fails and is either unobtainable or costs more than the price I paid for the TV.
