I know that the Olive One was mentioned several times in different threads (on Beoworld) over the last couple of years.

Maybe it is time for a 'round-up' - what is happening?

By now one should be able to buy it everywhere - but it does not seem so.

Has any Beoworlder actually got the device, and - if yes - are they still using it?

Any comments on this subject welcome.

Graham (Viking) bought one and uses it regularly I believe.

Ban boring signatures!

He has already given his impressions in the aptly named "Olive One" thread, where you also have posted Stick out tongue

UuH - in Denmark people call that 'Dementia Lite'!

Thanks for refreshing my memory.

On the other hand - there might be some newer experiences. It is 1 1/2 year since that thread ended.

Yes, my Olive one is in regular use, mostly for network radio but the hard disk now has had a lot of downloads transferred to it.

Sound quality is superb.

A lot of people are still complaining of delivery delays on the Olive One Zendesk website, and there seems to be a random pattern, with some recent orders being delivered whilst some orders placed last year are still outstanding.

Not sure whether it was really worth the wait via crowdfunding (or the risk) when there is now plenty of competition at similar prices, such as the Cocktail Audio streamers.

There are very frequent software updates, and once a customer has found and verified a new web radio station everyone gets it in the next update.

On a point of detail the promised wall mounts have not materialised, and using it on a table requires you to more or less look down onto the screen to read the display properly. In this regard they are a bit like the early LCD TV screens, very poor viewing up or down from the central viewing position, and only just a bit better to the left or right.

Having said all of that, it's a nice bit of kit: quality outputs and a quality look and feel to it. All in all a bit like B&O!

Graham

EDIT I seem to recall another Beoworlder was still waiting for his Olive One at the time my arrived (all in one of the previous Olive threads.)

Hi,

After a rather long wait my Olive One arrived. My first impression was that it was well made, looked good. After the first use connect to the wifi quickly and I was able to use it straight away connect up to a beosystem 4500. The sound is better than I had hoped, I even tried it with a pair of beovox 1 and Cx50's and again sounded good.

There have been regular software updates which improve it each week.

i have realised that all my CDs I have ripped were all over the place with missing art work and some tags missing, so am currently just using it for Internet radio while I sort out the tags of my files using media monkey and my pc, but once that is sorted and I have built a new lounge it will take its position in there as the main music centre for the house connect to my BS3000 so I have access to it over ML.

the IOS app works well, and again some updates have improved it.

The whole thing is not perfect yet but Olive seem quick to sort out any bugs and implement any requests from users. Hopefully next year a wall bracket will be produced!

after buying a second life beomaster 5 which the motherboard died just after warranty (and would have cost me £400 to replace) this is a lot more user friendly and hopefully will keep getting better and better.

Olive did get a lot of critasisum over promising backers a hard drive upgrade at the start of their campaign but instead choose to improve the internals and make it a more powerful machine, which I think was the right choice as it will make it easier for future upgrades and it is easy to add your own hard drive with all the instruction on the website.

so all in all I made the right choice to back the olive one even with all the delays.

Now back off to enjoy more Croatian wine (made even better by being put on expenses for work)

regards

Toby
