Hi,

I'm looking for some advice, I've recently bought some new speakers which include Beo Lab 6000, Beo Lab 8000 and also Beo lab 3's.. I'd purchased these as I wanted to put them around my house in different rooms on the understanding that I could daisy chain them and have music playing everywhere.

My problem Is I do not have a B&O tv, currently i'm running my 8000's throughout my TV via an Aux cable which converts to RCA then they split to the left and right speaker. I wanted to create a daisy chain from the 8000's using a 'splitter' but I've been told because i'm using RCA cables and I don't have a B&O TV a daisy chain isn't possible - is this true?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Why not just buy a second hand overture they are about £250-£300 then to be fair you would need active kits

Thanks Kai, I've looked at these but I think they look a bit crap to be honest, I was thinking about getting the Beolab 9000 as I think they look pretty cool… I don't use CD's though as I stream everything from my iphone/laptop thought my apple TV which is going through my TV which then plays through my speakers…. before buying the 9000 I just thought i'd find out if anyone else had had this problem and if so is three anything on the market worth investing in..?

If you stream most of your music look at the playmaker, might suit your needs better than a CD player you will not use (all be it the best looking one ever built)

Good call about the playmaker, I have looked at these and I've also looked at BeoSound Essence which is double the price but so much slicker. £700 though for wireless play when I can already do this through my Apple TV… Surely there must be an adapter that allows me to run 4 speakers?

Hi,

2 proposals:

1. why not use a receiver with pre-outs?

2. buy some extra airport expresses which you can connect directly to the speakers?

using e.g. Airfoil you can stream to more than one Airplay device at the same time.

My B&O products: Beosound 9000, Beosound 2300, Beosound Century, Beolab 8000, Beolab 6000, Beolab 4000 x2, Beolab 3500, Beolab 2000, Beolab 10, Beolink Active x2, Beotime, Beo5 x2, Beo4, A9 keyring x2, LC2 dimmer x6 and growing....

Hi,

A receiver with 2 outputs, is that a wireless box with 2 outputs? If so then that would work, i'd need the outputs to be a power link 8 pin outputs though as the lab 3's i have only have 1 input which is the power link 8 pin (if that makes sense). Do you have any suggestions for a receiver?

I'm not sure how the Airport express work, I'm assuming they connect to the speakers (which will need special cables), then I'd need 2 Airport expresses then link them together - somehow?

Thanks

Hi,

you could e.g. use the following receiver: Yamaha RX-V773. This receiver is the one I have and it has 7.1 pre-out sound (I am using it for a surround setup). However, you can run it as 7.1 stereo output which would mean that if you connect your speakers to Fronts, Surrounds and Surround backs would get stereo in all speakers. It would however have sound in all rooms simultaneously so there is no way to just have sound in one room with this setup.

There is no non B&O equipment that has Powerlink outputs but there is RCA to Powerlink cable adapters (which e.g. I use).

When it comes to your setup, the best way (and cheapest) would be to buy two Airport Expresses and connect those directly to the speakers with a 3.5mm to Powerlink cable (which you can get from SoundsHeavenly). Then you can choose which speakers you want to stream to and with 3rd party software such as Airfoil you can stream to several speakers at the same time.

I have this setup at home in three rooms so that it is possible for me to only stream to one room, two rooms or all at the same time (and sound is in sync).

It's a quite neat solution especially when you have parties.

BR

Thanks Riven, this is really useful. I was thinking about the Yamaha amp, I'm not sure which model it was but Nick from B&O Manchester recommended it. I like the idea of the surround sound because I don't have this at the moment..

I've looked at the airport expresses as well, do I need 1 per speaker or can I run 2 speakers through 1 express? Also can I pair this up with my TV somehow so that I can have the TV coming through my speaker?

There's pro's and cons with both, I think I'm leaning towards the amplifier though just because everything I run through my TV will come through my speakers (PS4 etc)..

Hi,

you could have more than one pair of speakers connected to the Airport simultaneously but then you would also have sound through all speakers. Below is a sketch of my setup:

In this setup I have the sound from both TVs into the Beolabs (surround in the Living room), I can stream to all rooms independently or to all and I can control everything using my Beo5s.

My B&O products: Beosound 9000, Beosound 2300, Beosound Century, Beolab 8000, Beolab 6000, Beolab 4000 x2, Beolab 3500, Beolab 2000, Beolab 10, Beolink Active x2, Beotime, Beo5 x2, Beo4, A9 keyring x2, LC2 dimmer x6 and growing....

Interesting set-up and combination of technologies ... quite innovative solution.

And you only use the ATV for audio ? or is there a missing input into the Yamaha / Panasonic ?

BeoNut since '75

Yes, at the moment the ATV (which is a 1st Gen with analog audio outputs) is not connected to the TV, only to the Beosound through an AUX splitter (as I have a Beolink Converter connected to the same input). I.e. it is only used for sound as I have e.g. Netflix in the PS3. However, what I forgot in the picture was a link between the PS3 and the TV in the bedroom (using an amplified HDMI splitter).

The Yamaha recently replaced a Cambridge receiver and one thing which is neat is that it has in-built Airplay with "Network standby". I.e. when I start to stream to that one it will actually turn on itself. It also has a 12V trigger output so that the Beolabs are turned on / off with the receiver (using special cables).

My B&O products: Beosound 9000, Beosound 2300, Beosound Century, Beolab 8000, Beolab 6000, Beolab 4000 x2, Beolab 3500, Beolab 2000, Beolab 10, Beolink Active x2, Beotime, Beo5 x2, Beo4, A9 keyring x2, LC2 dimmer x6 and growing....

Thanks Rivan, This looks like a decent setup, so I take it that if you run everything through your Amp (ps+apple tv+xbox etc) this will play through your TV. Looking at the outputs from the Yamaha Amp it looks like I could wire a projector through that as well?

How do you find the Argon Sub, I'm looking at the BL2 at the minute I've not heard of the Argon Sub's before but I've just had a quick look and there highly reviewed.. ?

Thanks

Actually I do not re-route anything through the receiver to the TV (yet). The reason is that the Yamaha was recently purchased and the Cambridge receiver it replaced only had Video throughput through HDMI. So all wiring was done by this setup and I just replaced the Cambrdige with the Yamaha. Everything is placed quite far apart with cables in wall covers etc. so it is a little project to reroute it (which I will probably redo during my vacation this summer).

Yes, as I recall there are more than one HDMI output from the receiver so that you could connect both a TV and a Projector.

Properly placed, the Argon sub does its job pretty well as a "budget" sub - it's great value for money. It's the oldest part of my audio equipment which I have gradually changed over to B&O during the last five years. I will probably be switching it for a BL2 or BL19 when we move to a house (now we are living on the top floor in an old wooden apartment building where sound travels downwards quite easily (at least that's what I hear from my neighbours) so the "boom" it gives is enough.

My B&O products: Beosound 9000, Beosound 2300, Beosound Century, Beolab 8000, Beolab 6000, Beolab 4000 x2, Beolab 3500, Beolab 2000, Beolab 10, Beolink Active x2, Beotime, Beo5 x2, Beo4, A9 keyring x2, LC2 dimmer x6 and growing....
