How to make old beolab speakers wireless and connect to existing beosound core setup?

At the moment I have a old BEOSOUND 4 with 2 BEOLAB speakers.

In order to listen to radio and stream music I have a BEOSOUND CORE and BEOPLAY M5 connected.

Is it possible to expand my setup with more (old = not wifi ready) speakers in a wireless setup. Ect. 2 additional Beolab 8000 or 2 more Beolab.

If yes - what do I need in order to make additional "old speakers" wireless and add them to my "network" via Beosound Core?

Hi Casper and welcome to the forum.

You already have nice setup with lots of options.

You can easily ‘expand’ your BS4 with an Active Kit and some Beolabs.

To do that however, you will need to have a Masterlink cable running from the BS4 to the room, where you need ‘more sound’.

That would be a relatively cheap solution depending on which speakers you choose.

But it is not always possible and/or wished for to have this cable running through the apartment/house.

Maybe you could concider buying another Core (or an Essence MK2, if you can find one) and connect the speakers there.

Since you already know how to hande the NL devices, it should be no problem for you to set up.

Or you could simply buy another M5, a M3, A9 or any of the other new/newer devices.

As you probably already are aware of, you need a good wifi setup for these devices alternatively a network connection.

Lots of possibilities today of combining new and old.

Additionaly you can have wireless Masterlink connections with the older Beolink Wireless system but the wireless reliability can vary depending on the construction supplies used in your house.

In order to make old speakers run wireless you will first need a Beolab Transmitter 1 connected to the your Core (PowerLink RJ45 or Optical cable) and a Beolab Receiver 1 for each old speaker. The problem is that they don’t come cheap:

- Beolab Transmitter 1 (400€ new or 200€ SH)

- Beolab Receiver 1 per speaker (100€ new and hard to source on SH market)

So that’s between 400-600€ to run 2 speakers wireless.

An alternative to Core+Beolab Transmitter 1 setup is this from SA Audio:

It has a very good DAC, integrated music services and even HDMI input. But I’m not sure it can drive more than 2 speakers wirelessly. Beolab Transmitter 1 can run up to 11 speakers.

There’s also WiSA SoundSend but I heard it’s very buggy. So I don’t recommend.

Either way, you will still need one Beolab Receiver 1 for every old Beolab speaker you want to run wirelessly.
