Hi to all,

I just bought a Beo5 on ebay and before messing around with the ConfigTool I wanted to know if it is possible to make a Back-Up of the Configuration which actually exists in the Beo5.

regarding my Beo5 the ConfigTool (v.6.00) says:

Firmware: 1.45b

Hardware revision: 6

Supported version: 0.46

Configuration: Yes

Date: 06.04.2014

Serial number: 2050xxxx

Thank you

******************* EDIT ****************

I stoped trying to get a BackUp , I tried the different ideas given in the following postings, but I could not manage to get a BackUp.

I have to accept the idea that BackUp of Beo5 isn't possible.

Thanks for the fast answer,

seems that I will have to start from scratch, is there some thing like an HowTo for newbies?

Actually, there is a possibility to backup your configuration file that is already in your Beo5/6.

When you open the tool and connect your Beo5/6 you will retrieve the configuration which is currently configured in your Beo5/6. This file is then stored as an xml in your Beo5/6 config tool directory. I do not have the path in front of me as I am on another computer but the folder name is the same number as for your configuration (8-digit). The file might be called configuration.xml. Anyway, just look around a little in the folder structure and I am sure that you will find it.

Just do a backup of that file and then you can just replace your new file with this one if you mess something up.

My B&O products: Beosound 9000, Beosound 2300, Beosound Century, Beolab 8000, Beolab 6000, Beolab 4000 x2, Beolab 3500, Beolab 2000, Beolab 10, Beolink Active x2, Beotime, Beo5 x2, Beo4, A9 keyring x2, LC2 dimmer x6 and growing....

Thank's Rivenflush

the path for my ConfigTool installation is:

C:\Bang & Olufsen\Beo5 Configuration Tool\Clients\2050xxxx\Configuration.xml

When you open the tool and connect your Beo5/6 you will retrieve the configuration which is currently configured in your Beo5/6.

To be able to retrieve the configuration which is currently configured in my Beo5, I renamed all the files and folders in the CLIENTS folder, now there are no more known devices for the ConfigTool.

I opened the tool and then connected the Beo5, this brought up a mesage saying:  New configuration will be created

which I had to confirm by OK

When opening the newly created Configuration.xml with Notepad++ I do only have a general xml file, there are no infos on zones and the configured BO devices.

I use ConfiTool 6.00 which version do you use? Perhaps there are differences between versions.

regards

gerard

I am still using an older version of the software, do not remember the exact version though.

Anyway, this is how it has worked for me. I have had 4 different Beo5s (which I have bought used) and when I connected them the first time, a new serial number and configuration has appeared in the tool. When I opened that one, it has shown me the setup that is currently configured in the Beo5 (easily validated by the fact that I have had the remote in front of me so that I have been able to compare the setup in the remote / program).

I have not needed to delete/rename any folders etc. prior to this. Are you sure that not one of the folders that already existed contained your current configuration?

Same for me, but this config has no zones no products configuered.

Rivenflush:

I did this to be in the same condition as you were when connecting a new Beo5.

I still did not change anything to my used beo5. When switching it on I have 4 different zones, products are TV Audio and PC.

Rivenflush:

I opened the files with notepad++ and there were no zones configuered in the files. For testing purpose I created a new file with a different serial number when the Beo5 wasn't connected, I created a new zone and when looking at the new file with notepad++ I found the zone tags.

This way I'm sure that config-file created when connecting the Beo5 to PC does not reflect the configuration inside my Beo5

Perhaps it's due to the different versions we have.

Could you check your version please?

@rivenflush,

I tested different versions of the Config Tool: 3.57 ; 4.11 ; 5.12 ; 6.00.02 ; 6.62

But none of them is saving the configuration on first connection with the Beo5.

There is a new configuration.xml created on start-up , but this one has no information from the products and zones configuered in the Beo5.

Am I doing something wrong or do you have still an other version then the onces I've tested?

Unfortunately this is working only with version 5 of the tool and your current config is stored on the B&O server

Version 6 requires you to have an account on the server

This means that your are able to load your configuration from the B&O server into the tool, if it exists on the server (in case the dealer has stored it on the B&O server).

As far as i remember you can find it here: http://www.beoworld.org/manuals.asp

Thank's for the link.

I now got a HP iPAQ 2210 and started scanning the Pronto codes for my IR-remote.

But I can't figure it out how to use the XML-generator.

Am I to silly to use it ?

I wanted to paste the pronto code I got into the field " Log " but I can't paste anything in there neither can I type the code in there.

Is there a How-To for it ?
