Hi

I am having trouble with my Apple TV. I want to use the optical out to have the sound via my Beosound 3000 instead of my (non-B&O) TV.

This works fine for audio, eg. streaming Spotify --> ATV --> DAC --> BS3000 works perfectly.

For movies, I use the following set-up:

NAS --> 8Player on ipad --> ATV --> DAC --> BS3000.

I only have sound when using the "ipad mirroring" on. When simply streaming to ATV without the mirroring option on, I don't have any sound.

Any thoughts on how to resolve this?

Take a look at the Digital Output in the settings in Apple TV - try auto or 16bit - it may not be compatible with your DAC or if it is set to auto set it to 16bit

I changed it from auto to 16bit. This helped in the sense that I evolved from no sound (when streaming movies) to sound when I play movies in mirroring mode.

However, I have no sound when streaming movies from my iPad directly to Atv (not in mirroring mode).

Any thoughts how to resolve?

The apple tv is sending 5.1 dolby when you are playing movies. When you stream audio then just stereo. You need something to convert the 5.1 to stereo

I am not sure about your suggestion. Main issue is that Optical out only seems to work when streaming movies in mirroring mode, and not in the 'non-mirroring' mode. Would these two modes have different behaviors for 5.1 audio?

I would say yes because in mirrow it's only stereo.

what you can try is to stream music to your apple tv, and a video from youtube if the sound is there then it's the isue with the 5.1

Problem solved! Yes - thumbs upYes - thumbs upYes - thumbs up

I found out that - in spite of the optical out being connected - the ATV was streaming its sound to an Airport Express which was Airplay enabled, but with no speakers attached. Obviously, this resulted in absolute silence Stick out tongue

Apparently, this behaviour is different than the behaviour in case of 'mirroring'.

The way to change it, is by pushing the central button on the Atv remote while you are streaming video. This brings you to a menu in which you can select subtitles, and the Airplay speakers.

Happy I found the solution Big Smile
