Hi, I am a new member and have joined to try and help an elderly couple who have the above system, but have got themselves into a bit of a quandary.

Up until something over a year ago, their system, which included TV and Hi-Fi, worked fine. Then a couple of problems co-incided, which culminated in them being advised to replace the TV, which they did, only to realise afterwards, that the TV had the integrated speakers for the Hi-Fi system.

They have been told that there is no facility to connect speakers to their Hi-Fi  system.

I would be grateful if anyone can advise them if this is the case, or if there is any way that they can use some separate speakers with their Hi-Fi?

Regards, carbman.

Hi Carman and welcome to BeoWorld.

The BeoSound Ouverture doesn't have an amplifier so there is nothing to drive passive loudspeakers hence it is not possible to connect passive speakers directly to this unit.

There are a couple of options.

1) Purchase active (mains operated loudspeakers with their own integrated amplifiers) and connect them to the Powerlink (PL) loudspeaker sockets on the rear. These are the 8 pin din sockets. Any B&O loudspeaker pre-fixed "BeoLab" will do the job. Price/spec will determine sound quality.

2) Purchase a seperate amplifier and connect any passive loudspeakers to the power amp. Think of the Ouverture as a seperates CD player, tuner and casstte deck built into one elegant cabinet.

Hope that helps.

Welcome to Beoworld.

Sounds as though they have been very poorly advised - firstly about the TV and secondly about speaker connectivity.

The Ouverture:  http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=952 has 2 x Powerlink outputs for connection to B&O Beolab speakers of which several are suitable.  If you follow the link above, you will find suitable speakers listed.  There are no outputs for other speaker types (2 pin DIN type for passive, non-amplified speakers for example.)

I assume the Ouverture was Masterlinked to the TV previously - this would have sent all of the audio (CD, Tape, Radio) from the Ouverture to the TV speakers.  I also assume that the Ouverture is the Hi-fi you refer to and there isn't another system attached?

Dave.

A pair of Beolab speakers can be connected with powerlink.

The BL2500 could work well.

Or a MCL2P/BeoLink Passive (as amp) with passive speakers of their own choice.

Or the BL7-2 - they are relatively cheap now.

Or a BL3500 at the vacant end of the ML.

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Wow!!! that is a great response from you all. Thanks.

Once I have taken it all in, I will try and speak to them again tomorrow. I think they would like to purchase some B&O compatible speakers because they were saying this afternoon that they miss the quality of their old TV speakers in the system. Their elderly hearing struggles with the inferior reproduction quality.

Thanks very much again.

All excellent suggestions - just one more for the list:-

A pair of Beolab 4000 - also relatively cheap now and very similar sound wise to the audio from the Avant CRT.

Before buying anything, be sure that there system were not an AV 9000 system with an MCPL9000 (link here : http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=865). In this case, they will not be able to use the "ouverture" with anything else than the TV....

That's right. What was their TV and what was their speakers?

If you can find the label on them, make a note of model numbers and let us know.

And you'll need an audio cable running from any line out or headphone out of the Non-B&O-TV to the AUX-IN of the Overture.

Okay, I have spent the best part of the afternoon with my friends and have made some headway with our understanding of the situation.

The thing that I forgot to tell you in the beginning, because I had forgotten, was that the CD function had ceased to operate.ie: the cd's didn't spin. Radio and cassette deck operate normally. I have discovered the person that gave the advice about the TV, was the Currys salesman!!!! Surprise, surprise.

What they have decided to do, in the light of all your advice, is to take the audio unit to our local B&O dealership in Leeds and see how they can help them. They would really like to get some compatible B&O speakers and if possible a replacement TV.

Thanks again for all your help.

Regards, carbman.
