Hi all,
I'm a B&O newcomer, with practically zero experience of B&O and automation.
I've got an Avant 55" and BeoLab 18's being installed on the 30th of Jan and I'm keen to start with some automation as soon as possible. The thing is, there's very little information out their on how to get started and what products are best, particularly for B&O integration, the info which is available is sometimes confusing.
What experience or advice have you got for me on this?
Initially I just want to start with lights and some basic security (sensors / camera). I've ordered some Phillips Hue lights for some effects but lights around the home would be desired.
I'm not fussed about automation systems driving my A/V, as that's what I brought the Avant for, so I really just want simple automation.
What sort of pricing should I expect for this and any B&O additional products (NLGW?)?
Any advice or links to other info sources are welcome?
Cheers,
Dave
The BeoLinkGateWay is what you need!
You can find the BLGW Installation Guide ver. 1.0 there.

And look under 'Partners' as well

There is a tv - and there is a BV
I have just sent an Email to Lee, to suggest the creation of a new section for Home Automation and B&O Integration...

mjmedlo:The BLGW is a much better automation tool than the mlgw. Pick one up. The programming is easy.
berlin2010:. If i pick up one will it replace the ML/NL Converter
No, it does not act as a converter unfortunately.
Hi there
i agree we will need a automation area as this area is going to have more and more questions.
i have some questions that I hope someone knows the answers too.
1) when I buy a BLGW it will see my existing ML products, will I be able to get the onscreen control on my BV7 ?
2) are the connected IP camera available to view on the BV7?
3) can I add a button to the app that sends a http string to open the front door relay?
4) how much is the beolink gateway in the uk?
5) can I configure the BLGW to connect to a lintronic device to allow it to send custom strings to triggar the lintronic to fire out IR commands?
6) can I configure custom strings to talk to my ilight controller over rs232?
7) are older products like a bv6 able to be placed into Zones?
8) the BLGW works with Phillips hue, this is great news as then room lighting is as simple as adding new bulbs and connecting to them. Do hue have special light switches?
9) the beovision 3 & 6 are not on the list. Does this mean the BLGW will be able to see them and control but not pass commands back and forth or will it not see them at all?
sorry for all the questions but the BLGW for me is the biggest improvement into automation for many years and I cannot wait to get one.
i tried for ages to get control 4 to do what needed but ultimately what I wanted was B&o to be the main system and now it looks possible and I can even bridge my new and old products together which means I can move forward again.
cheers all

Nope. This is network link only 2) are the connected IP camera available to view on the BV7? Nope. NL only 3) can I add a button to the app that sends a http string to open the front door relay? I'm not sure but under the custom strings if you know the protocol and can write the code it will send it. 4) how much is the beolink gateway in the uk? Can't help on this one. 5) can I configure the BLGW to connect to a lintronic device to allow it to send custom strings to triggar the lintronic to fire out IR commands? I would think so as long as the lintronic will receive and send commands over ip 6) can I configure custom strings to talk to my ilight controller over rs232? I think so 7) are older products like a bv6 able to be placed into Zones? I do not think you'll be able to do much with the older products. 8) the BLGW works with Phillips hue, this is great news as then room lighting is as simple as adding new bulbs and connecting to them. Do hue have special light switches? I'm no help on this one. Don't know about hue 9) the beovision 3 & 6 are not on the list. Does this mean the BLGW will be able to see them and control but not pass commands back and forth or will it not see them at all? I think the blgw will not control these sorry for all the questions but the BLGW for me is the biggest improvement into automation for many years and I cannot wait to get one. i tried for ages to get control 4 to do what needed but ultimately what I wanted was B&o to be the main system and now it looks possible and I can even bridge my new and old products together which means I can move forward again. cheers all Beovision 7 MKIV (Blu Ray) Beolab 9 Beolab 6000 Beo 4 Beocenter 9300 Apple TV SKY HD Optoma HD65 Projector Lintronic TT455-RT-238 Beovision 3 MKII
In Germany, the price is 1300 EUR, that's about 1020 GBP.
Yes, you can connect a Lintronics box to the USB port using a USB to RS323 adaptor.
What are you trying to control by IR?
Probably, but you only have 1 USB/RS232 so it's the Lintronics or the iLight...
7) are older products like a bv6 able to be placed into Zones? / 9) the beovision 3 & 6 are not on the list. Does this mean the BLGW will be able to see them and control but not pass commands back and forth or will it not see them at all?
See this document, that's for the MLGW : MLGW product compatibility.doc
Before you buy, you really need to check the compatibility, otherwise you may be disappointed.
Some TV can be controlled by the MLGW, to TV can pass the LIGHT or CONTROL to the ML so you can control things with your Beo4 in this room.
Do hue have special light switches?
Philips does sell light switched (=remote) you can stick to the wall.
i tried for ages to get control 4 to do what needed but ultimately what I wanted was B&o to be the main system
Control 4 can be interfaced with the BLGW.
PhilLondon: 6) can I configure custom strings to talk to my ilight controller over rs232? Probably, but you only have 1 USB/RS232 so it's the Lintronics or the iLight...
In fact, you can use a USB Hub, so that shouldn't be a restriction.
