Well, the esthetics committee has decided she's tired of trying to work around the Pentas is now doing horrible things like putting a high-backed chair directly in front of one of them. I suppose it's time to look for something that's not floor standing. I'm thinking a BeoLab 3 as the replacement. Given I already have a BeoLab 2 subwoofer, how much of a step down in sound quality will this be? I suppose I could also consider the BL 17 or an old pair of BL4000s, but I like the idea of the sound dispersion that the ALT design provides.

Besides straight music listening, They'll also be part of a BS3-based home theater, joining a BL2, BL7-1 center, and BL4000 surrounds. Any concerns about BL3s not playing nice with that sort of a setup?

Thanks,

-- Paul

Very different though I would hesitate to say worse. You will get more apparent high end detail but will lose the easy to listen to and effortless sound of the Penta. I would have a demo before you jump.

I have just changed from Penta IIs to Beolab 12-3s. I went into the store determined to buy a pair of ex demo Beolab 3 but was offered white 12-3s on floor stands for the same price. They look stunning and sound amazing.

One of my Pentas failed a few months ago and we were ready for something newer and smaller. One of the other reasons I did not go for the Beolab 3 was I don't have a sub so was worried they wouldn't sound as good as I'd want, but I was going to get them and save up. The 12-3s sound far better than the 3s alone so that was the deal breaker.

As suggested, go and ask for a demo. Only you know the sound that suits you.
