Well, it's been a few years and now the faults seem to be creeping up on my BeoSystem5500. Tonight one of the channels hummed, made a snap sound and I was left with a nice burn smell. Rest in piece noble capacitor I suppose. Anyway, this leaves all of the units (apart from the turntable) with minor, possibly fixable, faults but I'd like to start afresh. If anyone in the London area is interested in taking a fix-it project off my hands then let me know.
I'm tempted to buy a working 9000 system as a replacement but I thought I'd see if there were better (or different!) ideas. I know the 9000 has the fancy touch glass stuff but to be honest, I just need an amp that I can plug my living room computer into with a bit of Beo4 compatibility. I do love the older teak units but I already have a set in the bedroom.
Interesting question, the problem is that if you want to get anything newer than the Beocenter9000, at that point B&O moved to active speakers and that represents about the last setup with internal amps.
You could get something like some of the Beosystems with the sliding glass doors, and use an external, normal hifi amp and see about getting a Remote Mains Switch that toggles a relay turning an outboard power amp on when it senses the on signal from the powerlink cable. Perhaps an audio only Beosystem 2, or Beosound 4 if you are looking for newer items.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
