Hi all,

I'm looking forward to having a 55 Avant delivered and  installed in a little under 2 weeks. The dealer said it is probably worth (for what it costs - £70) buying the Apple TV - as the guys will simply install it whilst setting up the Avant, speakers, and DVD player. Am i correct in thinking i need the Apple TV for Netflix? I will probably sign up to Spotify too.

Cheers

Hi there!

Yes, the Apple TV box will deliver superb HD1080p (not 4K) Netflix to your Avant. I'm a huge fan of this little box - it's beautifully made & designed and stress free. Like ALL Apple products, it works beautifully. Don't forget also, you'll find HD films to rent or buy plus if you have an iPhone/iPad or iTunes, they'll work with this box. Vimeo, YouTube, Vevo, Flickr, RedBull Sports are all there in HD too.

I can't recommend it enough - it's wonderful. Like all Apple products - it's stress and worry free!

I simply couldn't agree more!!

I've had ATV since they came out and now on the 3rd gen.  I've over 250 films in my collection and many TV shows, basically I replaced all DVD and bluerays with this, it's just so convenient.  I'm an iTunes music fan and share my tunes between ATV, iPhone and iPad, everything also shared with my partner.  We also use NOW TV which is an app on ATV, provides great (although currently limited) SKY TV.  Rumours are 4k is on the way!

One little box provides the vast majority of my media.

WOW David!

What a recommendation and I thought that I was an iTunes fan :) Even better coming from you as you have an absolute top class system which would show up any impurities! Excellent!

Brilliant guys, thanks for your replies!

I have to confess to being soooo out of touch with modern media / technology etc. I still buy CD's and DVD's / box-sets etc. Never used Netflix, Spotify etc. Can't grasp itunes lol. I have a lot of catching up to do Big Smile

You might as well get one, it works well with the Avant.

You can use your BeoOne Remote very easily with it.

Although I have had no issues with an Apple TV, no device is fault free.

Where is your DVD Player being installed?  Is this solely a DVD or a BluRay?  If so I would have a BluRay installed as that still plays your DVDs - if you wish to opt for Physical Media.

Have you the Motorised floor or table stand?

I ordered a clamp from STB Brackets and installed on the clamper system my PS4, Foxtel (SKY for you), and my Apple TV.

Although there is a space in the Avant that can house the Apple TV, with the back panel on, in my opinion there is not enough air flow and this in time could cause the Apple TV to fail and it would be hard to get at if you have to reset it or whatever - that's why I had it installed on the outside. At least with the motorised floor stand this would be a bit easier to get at - but with the table stand, i feel it would be difficult.

One dealer said to me that if i had the Apple TV installed inside the television then they recommend that the back panel of the TV is not installed on that side because of air flow which makes sense but isn't as great aesthetically - although you rarely see it.

Can't wait to see the pictures of your install.  Good luck.

I haven't signed up for Spotify and I was using deezer the other day on my PC and thought it was excellent.  So if i were to sign up to a streaming service it would be deezer.  And being that the BeoSound moment has Deezer access - if i purchased that in time i would just want one service, not two.

You would use Spotify or Deezer natively through your Avant and not via the Apple TV.

Good luck

Good advice there Michael.

Hi LR2015, I think that you'll find the Apple TV very nice and friendly to use! iTunes will be very nice to use on it. That IS the beauty of Apple - they are so 'human' not geeky to use. Last year, I was forced to use a Windows computer at a radio station. Needless to say, I joined the rival group who use Apple. Don't even get me started on Microsoft Word. I've used it for 20 years and STIL don't know my way around it. Excel - forget it ;)

Enjoy every moment of it. I've been using Apple computers for 20 years now and not one problem! Pretty good i'd say!

Hi Michael,

I am having a BluRay player player installed on the rear of the Avant (using the STB bracket). Motorized floor stand.

Good point re the Apple TV and 'air-flow' - i will mention this and ask if it would be better to install on the outside.

In the B&O shop i demo'd the Avant / speakers etc with Spotify and was very impressed with how Spotify works. I haven't used or seen Deezer yet so it may be worth me trying this before i commit to either Music service.

Out of interest:

Watching movies - Is picture quality using 'online' streaming (apologies if that's not the correct term!) via say the Apple TV / Netflix as good as quality as watching the same movie on a BluRay disc in a BluRay player?

Listening to Music - Is sound quality via Spotify / Deezer as good quality as a physical Compact Disc using the BluRay player?

Again, thanks everyone for your help and advice Yes - thumbs up

Hi.

Happy to always help where i can.

The other reason i have the apple tv on the outside with a bracket is that at installation there is a bracket with the apple tv , and if the apple tv changes physical shape and becomes 4K compatible then i'm set and no need to worry about further fiddling around later. It's just a quick and simple swap and the bracket is close to the TV so it's all good.

I find the PQ from the latest Apple TV sometimes known as the ATV 3 HD is really good and I am also happy with the sound quality. I have 3 speaker groups set up:

1. TV. Which i found out today was just the 3 Avant speakers set as Centre. I thought i changed this lol. Now it is set as Left, Centre and Right. No wonder "Princess of China" from Coldplay and Rhianna sounded bad before i changed it lol

2. Movie. which is the 5.1

3. Music which uses the rear speakers as front speakers

A Blu Ray is better but the PQ via ATV is very good, especially with the latest software upgrade.

Deezer on my iMac was just as good as a CD, but if you rip your CDs in losless quality they are very good too. Most of my CDs are ripped however sometimes i like using the physical disc.

Need help or want to chat, let me know.

That's brilliant mate thanks! Liking the B&O feet in the pic Big Smile

One last question - does the ATV come with the correct leads to connect to the Avant, or do i need to purchase these separately, for example a 'HDMI' lead? Or will i need a specific B&O lead?

Lol. You'll see I have 9.5 (toes)

You shouldn't need to buy any additional leads. Just tell them you want to hook up an Apple TV and they will do the rest.

They normally hook up a HDMI lead and a IR cable which they supply it does work well.
