Hi guys,

I would like to add a sub to my set-up: Bv10-40, two bl 12-3 as front channels and two bl 12-2 as rear. I really like the bl 19 but I am worried it could be too poweful for my living room... (around 270 ft2, no carpets, almost nothing on the walls,...). And what's more, I am worried about reflections of very low frequencies in such a small room as mine. Any advice will be welcome!! Smile

Thanks but I am not going to replace my speakers with those just to get their sub...

BL14 is nice looking and its a tad smaller.  The BL19 is an amazing bit of kit though, the level of the bass can always be adjusted, if you want a high quality sound, which is responsive, and not "boom boom", then the 19 is the right choice.  It's opposing drivers almost totally eliminate vibration and create a fantastic sound.  I don't believe it's too powerful for you, my room is only slightly bigger maybe.

No need to replace the speakers, just add the sub;

shouldn't be any problem;

for the size of your room and your set up I think the BL14 sub would suit you the best.

The 19 is a powerful sub and may be too much so for the size of your room..

I would not suggest you remove the 12 series speakers to replace with satellites. (sorry if

you took my suggestion of the bl14/s8 that way)

Thank you!

A high quality "not boom boom sub" is exactly what I want. So you think I could go for a bl 19 and be satisfied, don't you? I mean... you are in your Living room... Right? Do you notice the presence of the sub even at low volumes?

Ah, ok.. Big Smile

Now I got it... Big SmileBig Smile

Don't worry.

Anyway I don't think the sub of this set is sold separately. I think it only comes with the satellites. And what's more, I do not like the fact it's made of plastic... Sad

Thank you anyway!!

Plastic!

Pretty much the same material as your BL12's - only without the front-cover Unsure

How about a BL11 in white?

That would be my suggestion also, it has done wonders to the sound of my Beolab 4000s and is IMHO the best one design-wise.

Absolutely I'm recommending it.  No it can't be heard at lower volume.

I'm watching a TV show right now, at volume 50, no sound, as there's no need.  If I was watching a movie, it would be heard, but it's fairly subtle, same for music.  Of course at 60, everything is louder.  As I said before, having had other subs, which don't have opposing driver, there is vibration, even can feel the sofa vibrate, with the 19 this doesn't happen in the same way, clear and robust low notes but without the rumble effect which I hate.

I went for the BL19 and it arrives in about 3 weeks I think, so i can let you know.

I wasn't after something boom boom either, but pushing bass when i need it.

I really wanted the BL11 as i love the look, the size, etc., but the dealer recommended against it and said it wasn't powerful enough, it's more ideal for music than for movies, which I found odd, so after measuring up, I took his advice.

Let's see what its like when it is arrived lol

Hi Millemissen!

Actually it's not just a front-cover but essential part of the structure of the speaker. It needs to be alu as plastic would not give the needed rigidity. The one of the bl19 is on the contrary a plastic cover. But the inside of the speaker is made of steel...

B&O has been using the composite material, that you call 'plastic' for many oftheir speakers for decades now.

Sometimes you see more of it, sometimes you see less!

Admittedly they did some without too - BL8000 etc.

It is ok to say, that you don't like the look of a speaker, or the way it is built.

The composite matrial is excellelent for a speakers casing - don't just call it plastic!

The BeoLab 19 is a perfect companion to the BeoLab 12s and can be fine tuned volume wise to match your set up - much more refined than the BeoLab 2. I think the BeoLab 11 would probably disappoint with the 12.3s.

we always offer home demonstrations in this case, the only way you will ever know the answer before parting with your money is to try each speaker for a few days in your own home - I guess this is a service that your local dealer will offer if you ask..?

Thank you very much for your contribution.

I will definitely ask my dealer to try it for a few days at home. Thanks!

Hi guys!!

I've always noticed that it is difficult to hear very low frequencies at low volumes. So I wanted to understand what sound pressure is needed for each frequency. I found a graph showing what we can hear and at what volume. Then I measured the sound pressure from my sofa at the volume I usually listen music or watch movies at. It turned out to be something between 40 and maximum 60 decibel. Well... apparently at moderate volume I would not even notice the presence of frequencies under 50 Hz. And in order to take advantage of a new, let's say, bl19, I would need to turn the volume up to a point where the sound pressure would be too much for my room.

I think I will either go for the bl11 and its 33 Hz, which are probably the lowest bass I could ever listen to in my living room...

What do you think?

Before anyone writes it... yes, ok, you are right... My bl12 would sound much clearer if they didn't need to manage the lowest frequencies. So my set-up would be improved anyway. Big Smile

I think as Aussie Michael has mentioned before, a white BL19 would look amazing and sound smashing!

Sal, you are probably right.

Today I measured the sound pressure in my living room and I saw that I can easily reach 70 decibel at just 60/62 indicated in my bv10.

This means that I could actually benefit from the installation of a bl19 going down to 21 hertz. At that volume I could definitely hear it...

I have asked my dealer to let me try one!! Smile
