Please forgive my ignorance, I've had a series of manual turntables (TD 160 mk II, SL 1200 etc) and have very little experience with an automatic TT as non-obvious as this one.

This is the US variation of the 3000 (sold around 1972/75). It has the tangential arm, not the radial. The transport screws are loosened. The idler is spinning fine. A new round belt is installed. (Parenthetically, the speed is slower with the new belt, will it stretch out and stabilize? Or should I go back to the old, seemingly tired, belt?)

When I have the switch on 12 and press the big button the player starts up, the arm comes over and the record plays. BUT how do I tell it that I want to end the playback of the record before the record is over? At the moment pressing the big "Lift" button does nothing. If I pick up the arm and manually move it into the middle it will trigger the auto return, set the lifter and deposit the arm in the resting position.

Also, it simply will not spin at 45rpm. I assume this is a lubrication issue, but is there anything else I might consider?

If I ever do get the thing to turn at 45rpm, how do I tell it that I want to play a 12 inch record at 45rpm? Do I start it as though it were a 12inch 33 and then move the switch to 7? That seems unbelievably janky.

Does the reverse hold true? In the very rare case I need to play a 7 inch record at 33rpm do I fool it again?

Thanks for your patience and for your help.
