Hi All,
Last week, following some serious soul-searching I decided to forego a Linn setup and instead bought my first B&O products in 20 years - a pair of Beolab 18s with Maple frets and a 'Moment'. Whilst my Audiophile friends were taken aback, I think I made the right decision - my, how lovely my new speakers are!
My initial indecision re. B&O however was the lack of a 'tangible' music player. As I'm of a certain age (late forties), and owning 500+ vinyl records and 1000+ CDs, I don't really identify with the 'Streaming' generation. and the availability of a high quality Linn turntable almost swung it for me the other way. But I appreciate that I need to move with the times, and after some time exploring the Moment with my dealer I decided that I'd try to embrace Deezer, and 'get with the programme...'
Anyway, I was discussing my needs with my B&O dealer and we were musing about there perhaps being many people like me who weren't being catered for properly, and we began speculating on desirable future products for the older more solvent potential B&O buyer looking for a CD and Vinyl solution: How about an updated Beosound 9000 type product -wireless, fluted Maple and Oak in place of the dark-grey plastic, a silver anodised finish, and Airplay-compatible? A new Beogram model to catch the vinyl revival - Wireless? Lovely wooden options? A Tangential Arm for that 80's retro feel? Or what about a whole new Beosystem?!
Of course, these are all just musings and I don't really expect these products to be introduced anytime soon - but if they did I'd probably be first to put down a deposit. I appreciate that the future of music appears to lie in the hands of the iTunes generation, but I think it would be great if B&O had the courage to go against the grain and started to again produce amazing CD and vinyl players for users like me, who I think would love a good-looking, high-quality integrative solution for their 'old' music formats.
Congratulations on your purchase, please post pictures when you can. I hope the 18's and Moment will give you enjoyment for years to come.
I think you are among friends and many like minded souls here who would love to see B&O release something anachronistic. I still have a Beogram 6500 Turntable, and long for a Beosound 9000 again.
Hi Beocat!
WOW A really beautiful amount of words with real soul :) Nice! As Sal says many will agree with you. Sadly, B&O aren't in the financial position right now to risk such things as a turntable. Indeed from the many articles that I've read, Tue, their CEO had the problem of the 'old' image of B&O to the new customer that he was so desperate to get through the dealership doors. The young people of Denmark when questioned said that it was not a cool brand and was 'something that their father bought but not them' hence the reason for many of the old products to get the chop. Maybe in time, a CD player may be introduced as for example, Technics are back on the scene with an incredibly expensive new range and that does indeed include a CD player, so it's pretty clear that they've done their research and found that there must be a market somewhere for such a device :)
Turntable wise, that really is a risky side especially when you've got the amazing British companies producing them like REGA and of course LINN with the Sondek which, lets be honest, has got to be the world's best turntable ever sonically. There's no way on earth that B&O could ever or indeed ever have competed with that model.
I love iTunes but i've never been interested in streaming music although all of my video watching is streaming (Netflix, Vimeo, YouTube). I still like to own my music even if its a MP4 download. I also grew up with vinyl, cassette, Hi-Fi VHS Video, DAT, MiniDisc, CD, CD-R and MP4 :) We even have Serato software that lets you play your MP4 files from a MacBook straight onto a turntable using a special Serato piece of vinyl!!! Believe me, thats something great for the vinyl generation that have many thousands of MP4s!!!It works brilliantly :)
Anyway lovely ideas and an inspiring read!
I hear you Beocat. I am of the analogue generation and the only thing I stream is foreign FM stations.
Sal: long for a Beosound 9000 again.
Sal - give into your longings , get yourself one
Paul W is quite right, when he notes that "....B&O aren't in the financial position right now to risk such things...".
If I were a 'newbie' coming to B&O and had bought a Moment/BL18 combo....and I felt the need to play old vinyls or CD's, I would not hesitate to get myself a good old B&O turntable or a CDX (B&O retro CD player) and connect it to the line-in of the Moment.
This is absolutely no problem. Since the line-in connection has 'autosense', you will have all the comfort you need, when you play vinyls or CD's.
Then time will tell tell, what you use most - the CD's/the vinyls or the streaming servives of the Moment

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Thanks for your kind words Paul W. I appreciate that there are hard economic realities out there for HiFi manufacturers, but it was nice to imagine 'what could be' for a company whose products I have always loved, but not always been able to support.
This week I have been looking at preloved Beosound 9000 Mk3's on eBay/Gumtree for future consideration, and yesterday I started to obsess over a Beosystem 7000 in white - but that might more difficult to get my hands on! It's just a shame that I'll probably end up buying these products at some point, but B&O won't benefit one penny from my patronage at a time when they could probably use the support - just because there isn't a product in their line-up to meet my needs.
PS Sal, I'm with valve1 - give in to your longings!
Hi Beocat,
Lee and Leslie are the perfect people to ask to find you a mint condition white 7000!!! Turntable wise, there have been threads on this forum which stated one in particular model being the best in terms of sound quality. MM the cheeky jazz cat may know the answer to it.
I have a Beogram 1500 in a spare room in my house. The arm skates across the record so I'm thinking that the stylus may be worn and I think it's very expensive to replace. Also have a Bombaster 1900 & BeoCord 1900 with 35 speakers which my late Grandad bought in 1979 I believe. One day I may get them working. Sadly, I'm of the iPhone generation now but one day I may rediscover some vinyl... One day :)
Valve & Beocat, you should see my eBay Watch list... it's full of 9000's
The problem is WAF (wife acceptance factor) because of my most recent BV11 / BL9 purchase. Remember, I'll have to get an ML/NL adapter in order to connect the 9000 with my current setup, or another set of speakers for a direct connection. I'll have to let the financial hit subside a little before I can contemplate it... though there's a white MKIII for sale here in the States. Yum!
Ahh, the old 'WAF' conundrum...
I've learned that my wife prefers temperatures in Centigrade, and I prefer the Fahrenheit scale, so I approach the WAF problem as follows: Whenever I buy something potentially 'controversial' (hifi, camera equipment...), I just subtract 32 from the purchase price and divide by 1.8 - I find the resulting 'price' seems to satisfy her, and I can always quickly know how much I paid for something by asking her it's price (she always seems to remember), then convert back. This way, everybody's happy! I've had to warn my son to NOT let her sell my stuff for the price I told her should anything happen to me - he knows the conversion formula off by heart.
That white BS9000 Mk III sure sounds tempting. Maybe it'll still be around in a month or so, once the memory of your BV11/BL9 purchase has faded a little!
Best Regards.
Haha I must remember that!!! But then, wifes and fiances buy Mulberry bags and expensive shoes but that's perfectly OK hmmmmmmmmm :(
