This looks very interesting. http://9to5toys.com/2015/05/14/nuimo-sonos-philips-hue-nest/#more-147795
"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"
Thanks, just pledged for one white Nuimo. :) Mostly to control Hue lights - however as they continue to add support for various "smart" things I will for sure find more ways to utilize it.
NB: I am using Beosound Essence table remote with A9 and I love the experience. <3
BillC:I used the Essence remote to control my Playmaker volume. Love the analog experience . Hopefully I can use this one to drive my HTPC
Hi Bill, How did you do this? is it just in close proximity and it works? Or is there a special set up needed?
Thanks in advance.
leosgonewild:I just ordered two essence remotes. Really bugs me. Guess they will go straight to eBay.
Was the B&O Essence controller inspired by a nest-like existing product?
if not the startup in Berlin doing this should put some money aside in case B&O want to sue them !
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/802159142/nuimo-seamless-smart-home-interface/video_share
Beo Century ,Beoplay V1, Beocenter 6, Ex-Beolit 12, Beotime , A8. Beolit 15 , Form 2i , Beolab 2000, Beoplay A3.Beosound 1
...or B&O buys that startup and improves Essence Remote to a new level. <3 <3 <3
That's not realistic, but dreaming is free. :D
Seems interesting indeed

How much of the video is vapourware?
if they can really deliver the functions it does look very interesting. Perhaps they are just intending to sell the idea on unfinished but the similarity to the style of the Beoproduct is a shame for B&O.
I'll wait to see, if there will be an actual product - and then decide, whether I need these functions or not.
As for the similarity, it will be up to the layers of B&O to decide, if it is 'too much'.
By now - reading about it on Beoworld - they might be aware of it in Struer.
If you look at their press shots, it seems clear to the people in Struer where NUIMO took their "inspiration" from. But the question is: Should B&O sue them for copying the design? I think the best would be if B&O works together with them and refines the craftsmanship or rework the Essence controller. If it's a cheap ripoff, B&O should sue them. B&O missed so much opportunities (still back till the days when the first iPod used to have the Beocom Scrollwheel...).The biggest problems I personally have with those "startups": - long term market existence- support- long term support
You can burn a lot of money in all this kickstarter things and the young companies have to proof if they are worth their money. Selling products is no difficult task, that can be done by everybody. They all have flashy videos and presentations but nowadays too many products are only shiny on the outside but crappy cheap junk on the inside.Quality? Foreign word.
Ok, then Devialet was first and I have to admit that they realy show what's technological possible! The Essene remote is a well made - but much simpler - remote controller than the Devialet version which can used for more purposes than the Devialet version.Essence controller:- Light control- Audio/Video control- Bluetooth controlI like the Devialet version, too and I guess it's very well made!
Devialet is not real hifi I hear, and it is overrated. And expensive. They copied B&O.
Jacques
I ordered two of the tabletop remotes. They are priced the same, but they are the same thing. You are ablt to mount the tabletop remote on the wall if you remove the plate.
Please notify when they go on eBay. :D I was planning to buy another one (table remote).
Send me a PM instead.

Big question - who invented the wheel

I guess the wheel was invented ca. 3000 years ago by a guy looking like Chewbacca and called "Ugh". Let's not fight what's better: Just buy what fits your needs. I like the idea with a real display inside of the round wheel. Looks nice. The Essence wheel is dumb proof: I have one of the tabletop versions on my night desk and I just need to turn the wheel in the darkness to switch on the programmed light. No fiddling, no searching. Just a little fighting because my little daughter is highly interested in the Essence controller. When I go to bed I just need to hold the standby button for a couple of seconds and everything switches off. Very nice. But the infrared part of the wheel is not very precise as the commands for volume control in IR mode seem to be sent out delayed and in a bunch: You spin the wheel and nothing happens on your audiosystem, you spin again and volume suddenly jumps up! Is this normal? Can anybody confirm this behaviour of the tabletop remote?
