I finally got a pair of 4500 and connected them to the MCL in the bedroom. It worked perfectly for a couple of days, but then something went haywire; the sound comes on, but turns off after a couple of seconds. I also have a pair of CX in the kitchen, and the system is 7000. I am at my wits’ end.
Does the sound only cut out in the link room,or does the whole system switch to standby?
If as I suspect, the whole system shut's down,it means that the extra loading of the new speakers is triggering the protection system of the amplifier, and you should investigate further there?
There is an adjustable overload sensor in the MCL relay box, that will cut out the speakers there if driven too hard, but the main system will still run for other rooms.
Check the connections to the new speakers, you may have a loose strand of wire intermittently shorting somewhere?

No, the speakers in the linkrooms turn off, but the Pentas in the living room work as usual. The system cannot be started from the linkrooms, but I get five seconds of sound in the linkrooms, if I start the system from the living room. The MCL in the kitchen is one-eyed; that is, only the right lamp is lit, while the bedroom one is constantly lit on both sides.
I got brand new 10 m cables from Soundsheavenly for the new speakers.
If your main 'speakers are Beolab (not Beovox)Penta's,they will impose very little load on the amplifier ,(none if using Powerlink connecting cables?)in the Beomaster,as they have a built in amplifier.
The "lights" on the MCL sensor's should only illuminate continuously when in stand-by.The right hand (mute)should blink in response to remote commands.
The left hand (timer) illuminates when timer is enabled by pressing the left hand area of the sensor,or it can be switched off again by pressing that area.
The timer function is to set the link room 'speakers to come on automatically whenever the system is time programmed to come on.
Try disconnecting the MCL cables from the Beomaster, then connect your new Beovox(?) 4500 instead of the Penta's.If the system still shut's down after a few seconds,it will prove that the Beomaster is at fault.
Hope this helps?
Are you actually telling me to disconnect the linkroom by moving the Beolab 4500s to the living room? I should ad that I have the Pentas connecred not to the Beomaster, but to the Beovision 7. Also, the sound does not come on anywhere if I try to start the system from one of the link rooms; The MCLs click, but nothing happens.
I fixed the bedroom MCL, though, just by pressing the right hand side, and the lamp went out.
Now I'm confused!!!
Just to clarify:
You have the link rooms connected via MCL cable?
The links are "Extra speaker" kit's or "Extra active" speaker kits?
You are connecting your Beolob 4500's via Powerlink or speaker link (4 pin connector)cables?
The Beomaster 7000 is connected to the tv via 7 pin aux link cable and beolink converter?
Is the sensor fitted upside down,if you can switch off the "right hand side lamp"?
You can see various link configurations here onsite, but may need to upgrade your membership.
your questions:
1: yes
2: don’t know; how can I tell?
3: speaker 4-pin
4: it’s complicated; I have a converter that I got from Germany. It was tested and worked on another system. I had athread going a while back on that subject, but as things stand, I am not at all sure that it is working on my system. If I press any button on the remote in a link room, the box - not the eye - clicks, and then clicks again after three seconds, but the system is not turned on. If the system is already on and i press e.g. radio, I get three seconds of sound, before the linkbox clicks off.
gotta go. thank you for taling an interest in my problem!
6: No, I was looking at it from the back, or in a mirror, or something... the left one, of course!
Ok,I get the picture.
I think you must be using MCL "extra 'speaker" kit's,as the more complex "extra active speaker" kit(later versions at least)didn't have speaker relay's,which is the clicking that you hear from the box.
When the whole system is in standby, including the Beomaster 7000,there should be a continuous light(mute) on the mcl sensor. When you press the mute button on the sensor,,the light should go out, then after a short period you hear the relay click.
Selecting a function via the remote control should have the same effect, and pressing stand-by either via the remote control or by holding down the mute button on the sensor, should put the whole system into stand-by,and the light should come on again.
If the above is not happening,I suspect that there is no data communication between the link system and the Beomaster, and you will need to investigate the cable connection's.
The data connector is the small white screened cable, and it's quite delicate and easily disconnected, particularly in the MCL connector plug's to the Beomaster.
You lost me there; the mcl system is connected to the BM7000 via the MCL & speakers on the back...
I'm lost too!
What happens when you press and hold down, the "mute" button on the link sensor in the bedroom?
Does the light near the mute button, come on and stay on,and does the Beomaster also go into stand-by?
I disconnected the speaker powerlinks from the TV and plugged them back in the BM7000. Now I have control of the sound in all rooms, but no sound from the TV. So the problem was not, after all, in the MCL's, but in the setup of the TV and the BM.
Meanwhile, in my other, related thread, it was suggested that I download the Product Configuration Guide, which is not, unfortunately, compatible with my 64bit Windows. It iinstalls, but won't start, so I don't know what format it actually is.
Thanks for your support. The problem sorted itself, mysteriously, when I changed the cables for the loudspeakers in the kitchen; suddenly, the whole system worked, and I can now turn off, mute, or turn on sound in all three rooms, and the television works, too. Happy new year!
