My Mk1s from 1992 (or was it 1993?) are still in decent shape. Woofers look like new. Just had to replace a broken tweeter once and have new frets installed. The Beolab 8000 seem to be very robust speakers...
The BeoLab 8000 is an extremely reliable speaker. The only issues we have ever had is blown tweeters and/or drivers from misuse.
However, we're talking 3 or 4 tweeters and 2 or 3 drivers in my 15 years of dealing with them - and i've had HUNDREDS of pairs.
I've no idea what the lifespan is as I've never seen or heard of a pair which have simply 'worn out'....

Thats all good news as my mk1's are from (I think ) 1995 and are cosmetically really good and sound great to me. I never considered that speakers would wear out either, just get damaged from misuse, although as the amp is part of it you'd have thought it would be unlikely that it would be possible for them to damage themselves! I guess to much omph through the line in might do it.

Living in Mexico my 8000s have been through power fluctuations, brownouts, blackouts,They even survived 220 V coming in on our normal 110 V, someone was stealing the cables in our street and shorted a phase to "0", and have been connected to all kinds of amplifiers. They are now connected to my BS 3000 and a No Break and will stay as such until I or they die, I will probably go first as apparently the BL 8000s are indestructible. My 2002 BL 4000s are nearly the same quality but I had to change a standby relay in one of them, I think it was the 220 V surge that did it.
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
My 8000s are running for 15 years,still like new.All I have done,few months ago changed frets(smoking,smoking).

Chris Townsend: ..... The shop there was well stocked, but not terribly well run ......
two thoughts spring to mind Chris .. well stocked is always good for competitive prices and offer your skills as a part time consultant for in exchange for stock.
Qatar sounds exciting ... enjoy
