Dear members,
I've just received a used pair of Beolab 3s. owever, how do I mount them on the floor stand? One is not mounted at the correct position and so I need to correct that. However, despite the manual, I'm a little lost. I can't see the appropriate screw. I can only see two from the outside and these two have no effect. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
Kai
Hi Kai,
section 4.4 shows the stand and screws
If you look through the slot at the back of the stand at the top, there is a screw which if you undo it, the black metal mount at the top of the stand should lift out. There is a 'screw' going up through this mount into the bottom of the BL3. Undo that and position the speaker as you want it and put the mounting screw back in again. Reassemble the mount to the top of the stand and secure with the tightening screw.
There was a brief discussion about the 'tilt' of speakers on stands here: http://archivedarchivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/27586.aspx
Dave.
Thanks Dave. Which type of screw is that? Doesn't seem to be the same like the other two mounting screws at the bottom of the Beolab 3...
Greetings,
If you mean the screw going into the BL3 - it should be in the bottom of the BL3 or already with the stand. When I bought my BL3's, the mounting screws all came with them. You must have that screw as it's already mounted from what you've said. I'm not sure what you're asking, or I'm missing something?
Dear Dave,
I mean the first screw I need to loosen. The one you can see from the outside through the hole for the cables. It's in place but pretty hard to access. I'm not sure which tool to use. Is it a hexagon socket like the other two mounting screws? I have a hard time getting a grip on it...
It's one size smaller...
And the other one is one size larger. Three screws - three sizes... I've never understood why they can't use one size...
Done. Now it looks as it should. Not the easiest mounting solution if you ask me, but ok. As long as it works...
Actually the speakers are pretty beautiful. I've never really liked them in pictures but in my environement they look much better than expected.
On a different note: how do you clean the woofers - not the accoustic lens - on these speakers?
sorry I abandoned this thread last night - it was bed time!
It is a little fiddly and no, I don't quite understand why they keep using different size screws/heads. It's across the range and is a real pain. No standardisation where it could be possible. This can also increase costs, customer frustration and is unnecessary in my view.
For cleaning, the guide says a soft, lint free cloth dampened with lukewarm water . That's all I've needed to do.

I loves mine as rears for the BV7-55. I also use them for music which purists hate (using front BL9's rear BL3's and BL2 sub) but in my room it is awesome - also for films.
Thanks Dave. You're such a supporting guy and have been on many occasions - not only for me, but for many others, too. Thanks a lot for being like that!
Manbearpig: Thanks Dave. You're such a supporting guy and have been on many occasions - not only for me, but for many others, too. Thanks a lot for being like that! Kai
Thankyou for the compliment Kai!
I try to help when I can - I don't always get it right but at least sometimes it encourages others to chip in when sometimes otherwise they won't. Most members here are like-minded and will always try to help and use the Forum for what it was intended.
Enjoy your BL3's. As an aside, mine are either side of a marine fish tank and get occasional salt water splashes and marks from it. They all come off with a gentle wipe with a damp cloth so the speakers and casing are quite durable.
Yes, but the surface of the casings seems to be easily scratched. Don't know what sort of material that is...
How durable are they technologically? Mine seem to have gotten already quite some use.
I've not noticed any scratching to mine with using a soft cloth.
I haven't used it yet, but, a product called 'Rennaisance Wax' - available via Amazon and elsewhere, is remarkable at preventing oxidation, finger marks and dirt/dust gathering. It's a microcrystaline paste wax which is colourless and leaves an impervious protective coating. It's used by the British Museum and can be used on any material. I've used it to stop tarnishing of brass on a Congreve clock and the pieces look freshly polished after 2 years! It's amazing stuff and I'm going to start using it on lots of my B&O stuff. It works for wood, metal, paper, stone, canvas, glass - in fact, anything.
I'll use ot on my Penta speakers I think as that metal is always getting finger marks. I'll also try on the BL3's.
