So, Hi

I used to own a nice Technics system back in the day as all I could afford at the time and it lasted for years.

4-5 years ago I made the decision to sell up and switch to eFormat for my music, spent hours ripping the collection ready for docking stations etc. but never got into it and missed playing my music.

Present day, the kids are a little older and I've thought what the heck and jumped in with both feet, completely new to the world of B&O and have already spent way too much within a month ready before we move... I've already picked up a BeoSound 4 and reserved a BeoSound 1 and a pair of BeoLab6000s, oops!

Welcome to Beoworld. If you get a device called a Beolink PC2 or Beoport, you can connect your computer to the system and play it by remote. Seems a shame to have done all that ripping and not make use of it!

Cheers Peter, will look into it.

The BS4 & BL6000s are for the new living room, looking for brackets for them to wall mount so the Hoover doesn't attack them - looks like it could be a long search...

The BS1 will hopefully take pride of place in the office, do you know if that can be linked up?

Not really - you would be better off with a pair of speakers and a Beolink Active. That way, you can access your main system in the office (same house I take it?) using a remote. Beolab 4000s or similar would sound superb and are getting cheaper.

ahh, so the BS1 remains fully remote/mobile.

Office is inside yes, would think the BeoLink active withw BL4s (active) would be more appropriate for me size wise compared to BL4000s.

Appreciate the direction.

Not impressed with 4s - 4000s are not that big! They wall mount!

Or vertical table stands, or table bases or floor stands.

Great speakers with most options for mounting them.

Best value for money!

Ralf

Welcome to Beoworld, Lee!

You will enjoy your setup but I have to agree regarding the Beolab 4: They are just ok as computer speakers... nothing more. You should get a pair of Beolab 4000.

The Beosound 1 has an AUX-Input which you can use with the Beolink active Powerlink output. This would enable the Beosound 1 to be a part of the Masterlink network, too. If you like the Beosound 1 better than other solutions, I would go this way.

btw: Technics built some great products and their best know example is the SL1210 Turntable. Built like a tank, reliable and known, used and appreciated by many many DJs and Clubs around the world! :)

Hi Lee,

I did try to email you privately but not sure of you got the email. I followed this thread and agree with the guys who say it would be good for you to integrate you Digital Music with your new system.

I have an unused Beolink PC Office ( the old serial version of the Beolink PC2 or Beoport Peter mentions) and I am more than happy to donate it to you as a new enthusiast (if you are happy to cover the postage). It can be set up with a PC but you will either need a serial port or a USB to serial adapter. I think you might also require a Beolink Active (but I cannot remember) and you will then be able to access your N.Music.

I replaced it with a Beolink PC2 so it is sitting in it's box in a cupboard. If you think you can make use of it just let me know.

If anyone who commented on this thread thinks it is not compatible with Lee's equipment, or it will be too hard to set up, please let us know so we can make an informed choice what to do with it Whistle

Regards

Stoobie

Hi Stoobie

Sorry, we moved to our new home on 27th and have been spending every hour unpacking etc. and have only recently had a landline/broadband re-instated.

Wow, I don't know what to say, thank-you.

At the moment I haven't had an opportunity to review further into linking things up.  If suitable I would love to take ownership of your BeoLink PC Office to help get me off the ground and would be happy to pay postage and a little something to a charity if OK?

I'm still to unpack the office and may have a USB to Serial Adaptor somewhere.  On quickly reading up I believe it would require a BeoLink Active, IR and Master Link to the BeoSound 4.

Q One.  Does the software for the BeoLink PC Office work on OS Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 which I will be upgrading to shortly?

Q Two.  Is it worth considering going wireless with the WiSA BeoLab Receiver/Transmitter 1?

That's not a problem, I worried that my email may have gone into your spam and I would hate for you to miss out lol. First off, having had a read of the user manual I'm not sure this is going to allow N.Music to work on your system as it seems more to bring the linked rooms into the office computer as opposed to take the computer to the linked rooms so I may have got your hope up over nothing.

That's not to say you aren't still welcome to the Beolink PC Office just that it might not do what I led you to believe.

It may be worth starting a new thread with "Beolink PC Office" in the title asking what it can be used for and what Windows versions etc it works with.

Hi Lee,

to answer your question 1:

The old Beolink Office will only work up to Windows 98. You will even have problems to install it in Windows XP or later: Sorry for this. You need a Beolink PC Office 2 or as renamed a BeoPort.

I currently have a Technics based separates system, running through a pair of Bose 301 series III Speakers.

I also have an SL1210 Turntable. I'm thinking of buying a Beosystem 6000, but even so cannot part with my SL1210!

Technics stopped making them a few years ago I believe?

Well Lee,

It looks like the Beolink PC Office will be no use to you at all as it seems from Ralph-Marcus and my own web searches it won't even work with Windows XP, let alone newer OSs.

I have just tried to install it on my Windows 8.1 PC using Windows 98 compatibility mode using the original installation disc and the program it tries to install says it is a 16bit program and I dont have the correct permissions to allow it to load. If I knew more about that side of computing I might have got a bit further. I think most of the software would be 16 bit which limits the OSs it will run on because since windows Vista machines have gone from 32bit more to 64bit and I don't believe a 16bit program can run on a 64bit machine although it could run on a 32bit machine.

If you still want it to experiment with it (perhaps getting a really cheap laptop with windows 98 and a serial port) then you are welcome. If not, please let me know and I'll put it on the  "for sale page"  in case someone else wants to experiment.

Sorry to have got your hopes upon this one Sad Whistle

Hello Stuart

So sorry for the late reply, I've been working 7 days a week recently and with the house move...

Please put it up for sale as I will be upgrading all the PCs shortly and at the moment just don't have the additional time to play but I really appreciated the offer!
