Dear members,
what's a Beocenter 2 socket unit worth approximately? They seem to be rare without the head unit.
Thanks!
Kai
Hi Kai,
there is a socket unit on eBay.de at the moment I saw this morning.
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Bang-Olufsen-Beocenter-2-Socket-Unit-/271844558514?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_77&hash=item3f4b32c6b2
Then you have to get the cables which are from 15 - 55 € each.
I wouldn't want to pay more than a couple of hundred Euro's for one but if I had a good head unit I may go higher. One without the other is pretty useless!
I think Lee at Lifestyle has the socket units every so often - after the head units break down. They should be relatively cheap. Head units are anything from 500 € upwards.
Good luck.
Dave.
Thanks Dave as always. I've seen that Lifestyle AV and others have had examples up for sale but they were not inexpensive. Something between 400 and 500 Euros if memory serves me correctly (Example) - ok this is partly because of the not very favorable exchange rate from pound to euro at the moment I guess.
Cheers,
Hi again Kai,
send Lee and Matt a message at Lifestyle AV. They don't always put on the website what they have lying around. They may have one for a fellow member going for less than that. Just ask the question. The worst they can say is 'no'.
However, for 400 GBP or less you can have a fully operational BC2. I love mine (as I do most of my B&O stuff!).
Thanks again, Dave!
A fully operational Beocenter 2 for less than 400 GBP? On German ebay these things seem to go for between 800 to well above 1200 Euros. Is price difference between countries really that significant?
How do you like these units by the way?
Greetings,
In Denmark they go for less than (the equivalent of) 1000 €.
But do remember, that there are different versions of them.
In addition to the 'normal' DVD-version, there is an audio-only version. And there are versions with or without DAB/DAB+
Don't ask me if I like these units - you'd probably be disappointed from the answer
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
I can just remember Peter who changed from a Beosystem 7000 to the Beocenter 2 and wasn't too satisfied with the result. You don't like the Beocenter 2 MM? I really think that the design is quite nice but having never owned one of these units can't tell anything about the technological capabilities.
Like it or not!
Who needs a DVD player with a scart connection nowadays?
We need BluRay and HDMI, if we want a videoplayer.
If I needed a system without the DVD part, I'd rather go for a BS3000.
But there are people, who like it and find it usefull.
I guess it depends on ones preferences
I can perfectly understand that opinion. Since I'm using a Beocenter 1 (which I like very much), the Beocenter 2 is not really useful anyways. As far as I understand, both share the same CD/DVD drive - at least that seems to be true for the later Beocenter 1 models.
If I was the one, who liked the BC2, I would go for an audio-only version - and do my video from a BluRay player respectively from a HDMI connected (or an inbuilt) media player.
But ---- the BC2/audio is MasterLink, and I am not sure I would go for that either - thinking of a future-safe device.
Depends - if you have a ML infrastructure already, it'll be fine. At least for a while.
If you are kind of starting from scratch, you'd better look elsewhere. NL is the future of connecting B&O devices.
I'm oldschool MM . I still use my tubes, powerlink and masterlink and couldn't be happier. Actually, I never really saw the need to change to LCD or Blueray (which is sort of related anyways since there's not much sense to Blueray when you're like me still using tubes anyway) and was one of the few who thought that plasma had the better color reproduction. In short - as much as I appreciate the newer B&O products, I'm more of a fan of the old ones.
The socket units really seem to be quite expensive by the way. Have done a bit of research meanwhile and they hardly seem to go below 300 Euros (example 2). Let's see how high the above one linked by Dave goes. I'll get in contact with Lee anyways.
Thanks for your help Dave and MM. As always your valuable input is much appreciated!
