Dear All,

Having recently purchased a MCP5500, there are some problems with the unit's appearance.

Firstly, as you can see, one of the hinges has come apart. The little pin has been lost by a previous owner and the plastic hinge has become detached. Has anyone any ideas on fixing hinges on a MCP5500?

Secondly, there is no battery cover at all (tape is being used at the moment) Anyone have one or know where one can be obtained?

The unit itself works fine, the front hinge however is very irritating when using the device!

thanks,

Ben

Find a paper clip that fits the hole cut to length and put it in, if the plastic pieces are ok, this should do.

Thanks, thats holding it ok for now, but pretty sure the plastic is on its way out as well!

Just need a battery cover now, someone must have one somewhere!

I doubt if you will find a battery cover going spare. All the MCP's use the same chassis so a broken MCP5000 is likely to be your best & cheapest source of a donor unit. The cover will be in dark grey though - not sure if the white MCP's had white ones or not?

Hi Ben,

do you have a plastics company, or a vacuum forming plastics company in your area, someone who can take an existing 5500 battery cover and copy it for you in any colour you want ?

if you do I am sure I or someone else can lend you their battery cover for a few weeks whilst you get it done locally.

Chris, you're probably right. I knew it was a long shot but I thought if I was to find one, this would be the place. Finding a cheap/not working MCP is going to be pretty hard i think.

Peter, that is a good idea, I will look into that solution.

Thanks Ben
