Trying to resurrect after years of storage. Tone arm engages correctly when cued but returns without playing. Any ideas on a fix?

Thanks

Welcome to Beoworld!

Firstly, which Beogram 1800 do you mean? There are a couple of different types!

The old version is only semi-automatic, - it can't return, so we must be talking about the later version.
A lot of problems in these Beograms come from oxidation to the microswitches below decks.
It may go away if you continue trying but the problem will soon come back if the oxidation is not properly cleaned off.
I suggest you clean the contacts. Soak a piece of paper in contact cleaner, sandwich the paper between contacts using
a little finger-force and then pull the paper.

In severe cases the contacts will need replacing but it's rare.
