The top cap on one of my Beolab 8000's has had a nasty scratch since I bought them second hand. I have now sourced a new top cap but I am unsure how to replace it. Can anybody help me out?

Hi,

I've replaced the  top caps on mine and you have to disassemble the unit to be able to get to the screw that holds the top cap on.  It's not difficult, just remove all the screws.  If the BL8000's are older units, I would suggest replacing the "packing", or the foam insulation pieces inside as they tend to wear out over time.  The foam inserts will have dried out and will crumble when you remove them, and some parts of them will appear to be melted.  The "packing" is fairly inexpensive and simple to replace, it's just messy.  I think i spent about 1 hour per cabinet, most of that time was spent cleaning the old packing out and then cleaning up afterwards.

Good luck,

Bill

I've also done it and am not sure whether I would do it again. Bill is entirely correct in what he says but it's quite a mess for that little metal part. Some parts will only come loose using brute force and the insulation material will probably have completely deteriorated and fall in all sorts of places. Therefore, it's not a job you do casually. And if you still want to do it, definitely replace the insulation material, too. As I've said, I probably wouldn't do it again...

Cheers,

Kai
