BeoVision 32" CRT: no sound, no menu access

Hi- recently turned on my vintage Avant after months of non use. No sound on TV via cable input, picture is fine though.  I thought I might need to change a setting, but when I go to Menu button on remote, the screen is just blank. 

Any suggestions?

If you have a scart socket attached, try changing it for a good one. I had the same problem and it was a dodgy pin. A new scart fixed it.
