Hi,

so I bought an Avant a couple of months ago. My brother has a custom-built pc with 2 Titan Z's installed. I tought it would be a nice thing to plug it into the avant and play some games for good old times. As mentioned and discussed on this forum, the Avant doesn't have the HVEC codec so I'm not able to play at 60 fps.

I'm kind of a newbie and I don't really understand how I can play at 60 fps. I read somewhere that as long as the box that is connected to the Avant is able to play/stream 4k, the tv will display this as well.

So I have to install the HVEC codec on the pc then?

again, I'm not used to these kind of things, I don't have a clue

Hi Jmcolle and welcome to Beoworld,

which HDMI version does the PC/the graphics card have for the output?

4K is about resolution, not about the HEVC codecs.

I am not aware, that a game played from a PC requires a HEVC decoder.

The Avant supports up to 60 fps.

MM

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Hi Jmcolle,

The HVEC codec is not an issue for gaming at all and is irrelevant to the performance of the game. What drives the quality of the performance in this instance is the speed of the graphics controller and processor in the PC and what settings you use for screen resolution. The greater the resolution, the lower the FPS.

There have been many comments on this Forum about a lack of HVEC, but across most countries, the way we consume media comes via an external box where this will be handled perfectly. And increasingly these new boxes also have inputs as well as outputs to daisy chain the devices across a single HDMI.

People need something to poke at and this is one of those areas some individuals have said this is something they'd like to see before they jump into a 4k TV.  Hasn't stopped millions of others buying a 4k product and nor should it as its fairly irelevant for most of us and the way we source content e.g. via a box.

Mark

That PC should be powerful enough to run 4k @60fps. It consumes power similar to a small heater lol.

To get 4k @ 60fps working the cards need to have hdmi 2.0 (which I believe they do) and the Avant needs to have a HDMI 2 port (no idea). Your HDMI 1.4 cable should be able to handle it but it really depends on whether it was truly 1.4 - yes it's amazing but some HDMI cables aren't really what they say it is ( I had cable problems even with bluray)

Thank you all for your quick responses.

I set up GTA V at 30Hz at a resolution of 3840 x 2160 because anything higher (50Hz, 60 Hz) would make the screen flicker very fast (at a rate it would provoke an epileptic insult).

I don't think I would see the difference between 30 Hz or 60 Hz, this is purely out of curiosity. Am I able to play 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz? I have to note that the pc was connected to HDMI 3 on the tv, I haven't tried it on the first or second port. Is it true that only these ports will support HDMI 2.0?

Try changing the port you connect the PC to the Avant and change the hz. I don't have an Avant ( long story) so I can't tell you. My understanding was the 85 inch version had HDMI 2 and the 55 inch gets one port with HDMI 2 after an update. My memory isn't that great on this. I was looking at the 85inch so didn't pay much attention to the other sizes.

I'm not sure how it is on the 55", but afaik all ports on the 85" get HDMI 2.0, but only the first HDMI 1 port supports the latest HDCP 2.2 revision.

So try port 1 on your Avant 55" to rule out any issues there.

Make sure you have run the latest software update on the Avant as there was an update a few months ago which enabled HDMI 2.0 on the ports, so you will require this first.

Also make sure you have the latest graphics card drivers on the PC from the graphics card manufacturers website.

You will definitely be able to tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps. :)
