Hi, new to the forum and glad to have discovered it.  I am wondering if I can connect both an Essence and a third party tv to the transmitter 1.  I would like to have the Essence and a turntable connected to it and also use the transmitter for a stereo sound from a sony tv.

Hi Sibbi

Yes you can connect multiple inputs on the Transmitter 1, however it's line sensing and the inputs have a hierarchy so you might want to think about how to connect. Here's the official B&O answer:

Connect several sources to the speaker at the same time

When connecting sources via POWER LINK, TOSLINK and Line-in at the same time.

Priority of sources is:

  1.
POWER LINK
  2.
TOSLINK
  3.
Line-in (L INPUT R)

Note that starting a source with higher priority will always interrupt a source with lower priority. A source with higher priority must be stopped to start a source with lower priority.

So I would connect the Essence with Powerlink, the TV with toslink and the Turntable with RCA.

So if you want to listen to Essence the TV and turntable must be off (alternatively connect the TV or turntable to the inputs on Essence).

Hi HardCopy,

thanks for that info!

I had allways thought, that you can only connect  to one of these inputs - means that you'd have to choose either one or the other...

Has this always been so, or is it a new feature, that has come with a SW-update?

P.S.

If you connect e.g. a turntable to the L/R line input, how will you be able to control the volumen???

Good question, you probably need a phono amp any way so get one with volume control.

There is an IR receiver for the Transmitter 1 (RCV3000) for you to control volume level on the toslink input - but I have never messed around with this option, sorry (beklager).

BeoLab Transmitter 1* now offers IR support for Samsung, LG, Sony TV’s! Bang & Olufsen is happy to announce the immediate availability of the RCV3000 IR receiver. RCV3000 makes it possible to connect a Samsung, LG or Sony TV to the BeoLab Transmitter 1 while still using the TV’s own remote to control the volume level. The TV can be connected to the BeoLab Transmitter 1 via TOSLINK or fixed line-out RCV 3000 key features - RCV3000 is connected directly to the BeoLab Transmitter 1 via the included USB cable - RCV3000 requires no batteries to operate as the power is provided directly from the USB interface - RCV3000 captures IR signals from the latest generation of Samsung, LG and Sony remote controls** - RCV3000 passes on the following volume commands to BeoLab Transmitter 1: o Volume up / volume down /mute / de-mute Specifications and prices Dimensions: 50 x 50 x 19 mm Cable length: 1.5 meter Availability: Now Part no.: 6271259, Requires SW v1.1 ** Check BeoWise for further information on compatibility *** Check retail system for price in local currency Tip: You can ask the customer to bring his Samsung, LG or Sony remote control to your shop for a test, if you are in doubt whether his remote will work with the RCV3000.

Is there a list of compatible remotes/tv-models?

Thanks for your help.  I was worried that I could only plug one source into the reiceiver because there is no option to switch between them.  The setup will probably be: Project turntable into Essence via a phono preamp. And Essence and TV into the transmitter.  Sending the sound to beolab 17.  I used to have beolab 3 but sold them two years ago.  Was not going for anther B&O solution but then I heard the lab 17s.

Transmittter 1 and Essence have arrived.  No cables with them except power cords.  Now have to get something to connect them and then send the signal to a used pair of beolab 17s.  Hoping it will all sound good when up and running.

BS Essence and Transmitter 1 just connects using an ethernet cable from PL out on Essence to PL in on Transmitter 1 (use an ethernet with shielding, typically recognizable with metal male connector caps).

Connect to the Essence with RCA or optical/toslink inputs from your source.

Is there any sound delay when watching TV? Like it is with the Essence and the Moment?

I have now been using the essence for a couple of days.  Firs I really like the beolab 17s.  I had beolab 3 and I like them to, some things they do better than the 17s.  But overall I like the 17s better.  I like the concept of the essence but operating it with the beomusic app is slow and frustrating.  Not sure I will keep the Essence.  The wireless connection farm transmitter to speaker has been flawless.

I have not connected the TV so can't tell if there is a delay.  But plan to connect it directly to the transmitter rather than thru the Essence.

I want to add to this.  The Essence is nicer to use after the beomusic app was updated.  I mostly use it for Spotify and that works well.  What really is nice is the beolab 17s.  I have owned some good quality audio equipment but I am really happy with the speakers.  I find I listen to a lot more music now than I did with the beocenter 2 beolab 3 combo.  The lab3s are nice but for my taste the 17s are better. The best quality system I had was with a Bryston amp and PMC speakers.  That was probably better sounding but as an overall package I like this system better and use it more.  Future plan is to connect my turntable to the line in on the Essence and the TV to the transmitter via optical in.
