Hi everyone, longtime lurker on this site so I thought I should make an account! I have been facinated with B&O ever since my great uncle showed me his beocenter 8000 and pentas when I was little. I can remember how cool I thought the motorised cd cover was and how the pentas would show you how high the volume was! so a few years later he decided to move into an aparentment and decided to pass them onto me, which was really exciting! (aparently they were too powerful for his apartment and he didn't want to disturb his neighbours!) after that I saved up all my pocket monies to buy my first b&o product some Form 2 headphones. They were really cool to me becuase I could take my b&o sound wherever I went.
So many years later I brought a b&o play S8 because they seemed like a a beolab 14 at a fraction of the price. They sound great and they are currently paired to my older Samsung TV.
A few weeks ago I brought a new Sony TV becuase 1080p would be nice and screens have improved since. as soon as I plug it in (Via the only variable output, the headphone) I get all this hissing noise, much more than there usually is. You can hear it from a good 6 foot from them. So returned the Sony thinking it was a fault with the TV and after testing and troubleshooting with the TV dealer where I got it from we concluded that the newer tvs as they are cheaper (compared to my 8 year old samsung) the components have become cheaper too. So that may be the reason why the S8's are picking up so much noise on the new sony TV. Have already checked the cables so this shouldn't be an issue.
So I have a look at other third party Tv's and many have the same problem or don't have variable volume output at all which is ridiculous!
So I am considering a beosound essence, that will make the volume variable between a new TV and the S8 hopefully stoping the noise if I were running it with a new TV like a sony
Or a V1 So I can connect the S8 directly to it.
But there is one thing that bothers me about the V1 and that is in reviews it has really bad input lag. As the tv is going to used 80% of the time for gaming I don't really want to invest this much into it if it's going to have really bad input lag. My B&O dealer said his son uses it reguarly for gaming on a variety of consoles and it shouldn't be an issue. So is there a possiblity It could have been a software issue that has been resolved since?
Does any one else use thier V1 for gaming and find it a problem?
Hi there Contrebase, the V1 is a very old design now that is discontinued. It has a very basic panel. The extra money has gone on the sound engineering. It's a 2012 model and we all know how TV design has moved on from 2012.
For around £1800 you could try the 55" LG OLED TV. Once you've seen OLED, you'd find it hard to be impressed with the middle aged V1. It also has Harman Kardon Speakers. It's probably the BEST TV on the market at the moment, if you want a TV for its picture quality, which, let's be honest, that is basically the role of it.
OR, you could wait a while and see if there is a V1 replacement around the corner. But don't expect OLED in it yet...
Thanks Paul, I'll check that OLED out. Thats the thing I was worried about the V1 that the screen may be a bit dated. Hopefully they do introduce a new V1. My dealer was doubtfull there would be a replacement let alone another tv in the Play lineup
The Essensce is known to have a sound delay on it's inputs so it may not be your best option...
You can try this http://almando.com/index.php/almando-category/hdmi-powerlink-converter.html . Should get rid of your noise problem.
The V1 has a gamining mode which turns off some of B&Os picture-enhansments, but I belive it still has some lagg.
that's a shame that there is a delay in the essence. I was looking foward to playing my iPad over it and controlling the volume with it instead of using the cheap plastic Sony remote with massive Netflix button supplied with the Sony tv lol. How bad is the delay? Is it noticible watching TV with dialogue or gaming.
Hi everyone,
went to my local b&o store today and tested the V1. As I was concerned with the input lag after reading many reviews telling me the input lag was 100-200ms which made it unusable for gaming I connected my MacBook to the TV and took some photos of a lag timer using a really fast shutter speed.
here are the results:
contrebasse:I am told that bang and olufsen has sold all their new stock and only the demo models are available (in Australia, might be different elsewhere) which is a shame because it was a great TV for its price.
