I picked up an Essence this week ( along with a new Moment! ;)  with the thought of tying in an editing system in my home office to the rest of the home.

I've got some nice (flat and neutral) studio monitors that require amplification that I'd like to continue to use but would like to ditch my old Crown amp (noisy and overkill) for something simple that works more like a linkroom passive kit.  I am not needing much wattage or loud volume here.

Please no B&O active arguments.  I've got them everywhere else but the best models that would fit my needs won't physically work in the space.

Any thoughts or experience for how to configure amplification+speakers in place of active speakers?

Maybe this can be the solution:

A MCL2P 1741 as an amp, use a RJ45 to powerlink cable to connect the amp to the essence and DIN speakercables (at least on one end, other end bare wire) to connect your monitors to the MCL2P.

Maybe somebody has tried this before?

B&O used to make something called a Remote Mains Switch, little box with a power outlet on the back and a Powerlink input. The Powerlink trigger caused the thing to switch the AC outlet on, which you plugged your amplifier into. So, when the PL triggered on the amp would turn on, and you could go PL to RCA to drive the amps inputs. Can find them on eBay and such occasionally.

Yes, I have an MCL2P and it is pretty good - it is hooked into a Beolink Active with the PL sockets and gives a good neutral sound - I think they are pretty much bombproof and have a hefty output - enough to drive my Beovox Penta's anyway.
